Griffiths’ followers were quick to share their relief that he’d finally had the surgery.

One said: “Great news the tumour is gone, wishing you a speedy recovery!”

A second added: “Sending lots of love to you Merlin …wishing you a speedy recovery.”

Revealing they were also battling the disease, a third commented: “Well done and speedy recovery, I’m 21 days post-op, each day you’ll get stronger and stronger!

“Amazing Merlin, absolute champ! Take it easy, recovery always takes longer than expected but what a relief!” a fourth penned.

The Channel 4 favourite has regularly kept fans updated on his journey with the disease.

Before his surgery he shared another image with followers, writing: “Ready as I’ll ever be. Tumour removal time.”

He first revealed the diagnosis of stage three bowel cancer back in September 2021.

In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, he revealed how he broke the devastating news to his daughter, saying: “I said, ‘Dad’s got cancer’. She said, ‘Is that bad, dad?’.

“I said, ‘Yes, it’s very serious but I think it should be okay. Modern medicine’s great and if anything changes I’ll let you know’.

“She understands that people can die but I told her cancer comes in different varieties and in different ways too – and that many people come through it.”

The fan favourite also shared more devastating news before Christmas, that he had to close down his pub, Dog and Gun, in Leicestershire.

Taking to Twitter at the time, he said: “All our bookings have now been cancelled. Might just close the pub for Christmas. This is appalling.”
