First Dates star Merlin Griffiths has been ‘rushed to hospital with bowel cancer complications’.
The TV personality took to Instagram on June 27 and shared a photo with his 99,000 followers from a ward bed.
He captioned the post: “Oh… Squibwibble. #complications #nhs #BowelCancerAwareness.”
Since being shared, the post has accumulated more than 16,000 likes and hundreds have taken to the comments and sent well wishes.
One said: “Sending positive vibes and wishing you better. You got this!”
“Stay strong Merlin,” added another.
“Just remember that you can’t keep a good man down for very long. You will be back on your feet before you know it,” a third reassured.
A fourth commented: “We are all rooting for you Merlin.”
The 46-year-old revealed to his followers in April that he had undergone surgery to have his stage three tumour removed.
At the time, he wrote: “And home again. 6 days from surgery. #NHS #davincisurgicalsystem is quite something.
“It’s taken weeks off hospitalisation time! Road to recovery next. #cancer #bowelcancer #stoma.”
Griffiths announced his bowel cancer diagnosis back in September last year.
He opened up to the Sunday Mirror about the difficult discussion he had with his seven-year-old daughter, Alix.
Recalling the chat, the bartender said: “I said, ‘Dad’s got cancer’. She said, ‘Is that bad, Dad?’.
“I said, ‘Yes, it’s very serious but I think it should be okay. Modern medicine’s great and if anything changes I’ll let you know.”
He went on to add: “She understands that people can die but I told her cancer comes in different varieties and in different ways too – and that many people come through it.”
