Mia Khalifa says she was disowned by her family after they found out she’d started making adult films.

Khalifa, 29, was only in the industry for three months but remains one of its most popular stars.

She boasts an incredible 27 million followers on Instagram and more than 36 million followers on TikTok.

Since leaving the business, Khalifa has been very vocal about the harsh realities of s** work.

She has also discussed her pathway into p***, explaining that it largely stemmed from ‘rebellion’ and wanting to do something ‘out of bounds’ and ‘out of character’.

During an appearance on BBC’s HARDtalk, Khalifa tells journalist Stephen Sackur: “I shocked even myself.”

Sackur then asks Khalifa whether her family had known what she was doing in the beginning, to which she replies: “No.”

The media personality goes on to reveal that it resulted in her being ‘disowned’.

Khalifa continues: “And they disowned me when they found out.

“I felt completely alienated by not just the world, but my family and the people around me.

“Especially after I quit, when I was still alone, even though I left. And I just realised some mistakes aren’t forgivable.

“But time heals all wounds, and things are getting better now.”

Khalifa arrived in the US from Lebanon with her parents in 2001, eventually going on to study History at the University of Texas.

By the time she turned 22, she was the most searched-for performer on P***hub.

Khalifa has also acknowledged that she had pretty stable foundations in life and that it wasn’t just an urge to rebel that led her into the industry, but a lack of self-esteem too.

She explains: “I don’t think low self-esteem discriminates against anyone. It doesn’t matter if you come from a great family or if you come from a not-so-great background.

“I struggled my entire childhood with weight and I never felt attractive or worthy of male attention.

“And suddenly my first year of college I start losing all this weight from making small changes and by the time I graduated I was ready to make a bigger difference.”

She adds: “After feeling what it was like – that validation and the compliments for the first time – I did not want that to go away.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Khalifa recalls telling producers that they were going to get her ‘killed’ before an extremely controversial scene involving a hijab.

She believes the industry left her with post-traumatic stress disorder and has also ruined her relationships with people.

Khalifa says: “Of course, it affects relationships.

“The things that men see in videos, they expect from the women in their lives, and that’s just not reality.

“No one is doing to be that perfect, no one is going to do those acts on a Wednesday night with the person they love.”
