US Attorney Damian Williams has now shared a statement calling drug deaths a ‘public health crisis’.

It reportedly reads: “This is a public health crisis. And it has to stop.

“Deadly opioids like fentanyl and heroin don’t care about who you are or what you’ve accomplished. They just feed addiction and lead to tragedy.”

According to the Daily Beast, Williams’ death has been treated as a homicide by the NYPD.

Determined to find the suspects, they reportedly used surveillance cameras to try and track car license plates across the city.

In an interview with the outlet, a police officer recalled how he instructed investigators to treat the high-profile case.

He supposedly told them: “Treat this case as if Michael K Williams was hit by a bullet.

“Make-believe he got shot.”

Back in 2012, the actor opened up about his demons to news outlet NJ.com.

He reportedly said: “No one who was in my circle, who knew me as Mike, was allowing me to get high.

“I had to slip away to do drugs. I had to hide it. I’d be gone for days at a time. I was lonely in that part of my life. I was broke, broken, and beat up. Exhausted. Empty. I finally said, ‘I can’t do this no more’.

“I didn’t want to end up dead.”
