Michael Owen’s daughter, Gemma, has officially been announced as a Love Island 2022 contestant.

The 19-year-old, who is from Chester and owns her own swimwear brand, was revealed to be on the popular reality dating show on May 30.

In an interview with ITV, Owen said she is open to ‘finding love’ and plans to be ‘fun, flirty, and fiery’.

She said: “I am open to finding love, I’m wanting to have a really fun summer. I was seeing someone and then that didn’t work out so I thought, ‘Why not?’.

“I think I’m good at giving advice, I’m a good person to talk to, I’m very honest. If I want the same guy, I’d do it but in a nice respectful way.”

Owen, who is also an international dressage rider, went on to admit that just like her dad, she’s super ‘competitive’.

She added: “Sport has always been a big thing for me and my family. My dad was a professional football player. I’ve travelled all across Europe competing in big arenas and in big competitions. I would say I’m very competitive.”

The teen went on to say that she plans to use this approach when it comes to meeting someone in the villa. However, she stressed that she wouldn’t get in the way of two people who have ‘a genuine connection’.

She explained: “But at the same time, I’m not going to mess up something for someone who is in a proper relationship or get in the way of a couple if they have a genuine connection.

“I wouldn’t do anything to another girl that I wouldn’t be happy with them doing to me.”
