A 35-year-old mum has admitted to having sex with multiple underage boys and has been sentenced to 90 days in prison.
Idaho mum Amanda Katherine Steele will be serving only three months in jail which will be followed by a seven-year probation period after she pleaded guilty to two felony counts of injury to a child, District Judge Darren Simpson announced on Tuesday
The mum, from Soda Springs, admitted to the charges in June after striking a plea deal with prosecutors. Initially, she had been charged with three felony counts of child sexual battery committed by lewd conduct.
The East Idaho News reported that on Tuesday, Judge Simpson agreed to suspend the potential three to ten year prison sentence. However, if Steele doesn’t comply with her probation then she could still face jail time.
In late 2017, Steele was investigated by law enforcement when her father-in-law contacted local authorities. He had heard a rumour that she had been hanging out with a group of young boys.
According to court documents, the victims – which included a boy aged 17 – would skip school so that they could have sex with Steele. At the time, she had been living in Arco and was married.
The police report stated: “[The victim] told me he knew several of his friends had sex with her too but didn’t know anyone else besides [a second victim] had been under 18.”
Eventually, Steele confessed to her husband and the authorities that she had been engaging in illegal trysts with underage boys. She revealed that one of the encounters took place at the 17-year-old’s house and another time at her own home.
In 2018, the investigation was stalled as victims, Steele and others began to give conflicting answers throughout interviews.
Yet in 2019, Steele’s case was revisited when her now ex-husband informed authorities that he had caught his wife in a hot tub with one of the victims.
Based on reports, Steele became upset when he tried to intervene and told him he’s “being ridiculous”.
Another victim claimed to have recorded one of their sexual encounters with Steele on a Go-Pro camera. However, the computer that they alleged to have uploaded the file to was destroyed.
It is believed that the victims have deemed the sexual encounters as consensual. However, Steele has been charged under Idado law, which states that someone is 16 or 17 cannot consent to sex with adults five or more years older than them.
As the charges have been amended, Steele will not have to register as a sex offender.
As a part of her sentencing, the mum will have to complete 300 hours of community service and pay $4,671 in fees and fines.
