A mum and her 19-year-old daughter have admitted that they still take a shower together every day and also share the same bed.
Mary, 55, and Brittani, 19, from Jensen Beach, Florida, have recently featured on TLC’s sMothered, where they shared that they do everything together, from the shopping to having cosmetic surgery and also, having a shower together – it’s their version of normal.
Mary, who works at a tailor shop, has declared her daughter as “the love of my life” and they both feel that there’s a “spiritual connection” which makes them want to be together all the time.
Mary said: “I don’t believe I set out to have a relationship this close to Brittani, it’s something that was supposed to be.”
In the TV show, viewers see Mary and Britanni as they have their routine shower together and at one point, Mary can be heard saying: “Ah that feels good!”
As her daughter is “so white”, Mary is shown to be scrubbing her daughter’s back whilst encouraging her to get a tan.
Since Britanni was five-years-old, she has been having showers every day with her mum and to this day, still lives with her. She believes that if she decided to move out, it would cause Mary to die of “separation anxiety”.
On the show, Britanni says: “When my mom does simple things like washing my hair or washing my body it makes me feel comforted.”
Mary added: “The best way to start our day is in the shower.
“I love her and I don’t see anything wrong with it.”
Although some have deemed their relationship a little odd or even wrong, Mary believes these are the people who are actually the weird ones.
She told the New York Post: “There’s so many moms and daughters out there that aren’t close — and if they think it’s weird, it’s because they’re not close.”
Brittani has even admitted that her friends have shared with her that her relationship with her mum is odd, yet she doesn’t mind as the bond is so strong between her and Mary.
She told The Post: “It’s my mom, she’s my number one friend, I can tell her anything.”
It’s not just Brittani’s friends who have said that the relationship is unorthodox, Mary says that her live-in boyfriend Frank has also expressed his frustration at the bond. Apparently, he has just had to learn to accept it.
She adds: “It has caused some issues in my relationship, but he’s got to accept it, that’s how it is. He knows I love him, but I love my daughter more — she’s my life.”
sMothered will be premiering in the UK on August 4 on TLC.
