A beloved news anchor has tragically died along with her unborn child.
Elaine Cristina da Silva Santos, 38, was a reporter for Brazilian outlet Canção Nova and the presenter of the news program Canção Nova Notícias.
She joined the organisation as an intern in 2008 and worked her way up through the ranks over the next 15 years.
Unfortunately, it has been announced that Santos passed away along with her unborn child.

As reported by Canção Nova, Santos was hospitalised on Monday, November 20, due to respiratory failure – a condition that develops when the lungs can’t get enough oxygen into the blood, as per the National Institutes of Health.
She was 23 weeks pregnant at the time and tragically, her condition worsened and she passed away the next day along with the baby who did not survive.
According to the outlet, Santos’ cause of death has been confirmed as pneumonia and generalised infection.
She is survived by her husband, Fernando Carvalho, and her son, Léo.
In a statement shared by her employer, they say Santos’ death leaves a ‘huge gap in our lives and in our newsroom’.
It reads: “It is with deep regret that we announce the death of the journalist and presenter, Elaine Santos, who worked at Canção Nova for 15 years and had an immense desire to work in the service of life and hope.
“Her friendliness and smile (a primordial habit of the Canção Nova charisma) infected everyone and, in a short time, she became a professional of respect and responsibility in the desire to save souls.
“Today, Elaine completed the good fight and left a huge gap in our lives and in our newsroom.
“Today, Elaine removed the veil from our eyes and made us understand that life is fleeting and we don’t know how much time we have for each other.”
The statement also claims that the couple were planning on naming their second son Rafael.

Elsewhere, viewers have taken to social media to pay tribute to Santos.
One person pens: “My condolences to all family and friends!”
Someone else adds: “I still can’t believe it… Rest in peace, Elaine.”
“I can’t believe it! May God receive them in heavenly glory. My condolences to the family,” writes a third.
Her Canção Nova colleague, Paula Guimarães, says: “We are all very sad this morning. We have just received the news of the death of our beloved Elaine.
“[She] became spectacular in what she did.”
Santos’ death comes three years after she reportedly suffered a miscarriage just five weeks into her pregnancy.
Speaking to Revista Quem (via Daily Mail), Cançao Nova cameraman Ederaldo Paulini explained that she was rushed to the hospital after her water broke.
Santos underwent an emergency cesarean section, but, tragically, the child died.
“They didn’t know the [gender], she had to see the baby, she saw that it was a boy and they named him Theo,” Paulini said.
“At the time, she was very shaken and cried in secret.”
