Authorities Issue Statement After Woman Has ‘Heart Removed’ On Vacation
Turkish officials have broken their silence after a woman who died on vacation was allegedly left with her heart removed.
British mom-of-two Beth Martin tragically died on holiday in Turkey, and now authorities have spoken out after an alleged discovery.
The 28-year-old mom of two fell ill with suspected food poisoning while traveling to Istanbul, and was transferred to the local Marmara University Hospital after becoming ‘delirious.’
Martin sadly died several days later on April 29, leaving her grieving husband to explain what had happened to their two young children.
It was only upon Martin’s return to the U.K. that her family allegedly made the horrifying discovery that her heart was missing.
Her bereaved relatives are now desperately seeking answers as to what happened to Martin after she passed away.
They insist they were not asked for permission, nor did they give it, for her heart to be removed.
To make matters worse, Martin’s husband, Luke, had even been accused of poisoning his wife by Turkish authorities before he was released.
He said his wife was being treated in intensive care, and claimed they suddenly banned him from seeing her, reports The Sun.
The next day, Martin and Luke’s parents flew out only to discover she had been transferred to another hospital without anybody being told.
They say the hospital said it was due to ‘concerns with her heart.’
The family has now set up a GoFundMe, which at the time of writing has raised more than £250,000 ($338,000).
A close friend of Martin’s, called Ellie, told The Sun about the strange behavior they apparently witnessed at the hospital: “All they went on about is ‘Are you going to sue the hospital? Sign this bit of paper.’
“I said: ‘Is there something we should be suing for? Do you know something we don’t? Because that’s really suspicious.'”
Ellie continued: “The insurance company wanted to move her to a private hospital but the public hospital in Istanbul were not cooperating, they were being slow and delaying reports and not sending information over. They stopped her.”
It is also claimed that Martin’s grieving family were forced to carry her through the hospital in a body bag.
Martin’s family claimed an autopsy in the U.K. revealed that her heart was missing, and it has not been possible to confirm her cause of death.
Contrary to this, the Turkish health ministry has now released a statement, saying Martin’s cause of death was from ‘cardiac arrest due to multiple organ failure.’
The statement reads: “The patient was recorded in the hospital records as a ‘forensic case’ in line with the statement of Martin’s wife that they may have been poisoned by a meal they ate in their country before the trip, and the initial findings.”
Officials also insist Martin did not undergo any surgery, and state that her initial autopsy was non-invasive and didn’t involve any incisions.
Following this first autopsy, she was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute for a second autopsy.
They did not clarify whether surgical procedures or incisions were used for this second examination.
Officials said: “The exact cause of Martin’s death could not be determined with the current findings in the preliminary autopsy, which was carried out with the participation of the Public Prosecutor and the forensic medicine doctor.
“Beth Martin did not undergo any surgical procedures during her treatment at the hospital, and there was no question of any organs being removed.”
