Charlie Kirk Murder Suspect Arrested
The police have made an arrest after Charlie Kirk, 31, was shot dead at a university campus in Utah.
A man has been arrested over the shooting of prominent right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk, Donald Trump has revealed.
The U.S. president said officials have a ‘high degree of certainty’ the person they have arrested is the shooter who killed Kirk.
The gunman accused of killing Charlie Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson.
Robinson, 22, was named as the alleged assassin of Kirk, 31, who was shot at his own event on a university campus in Utah.
Trump added that the person went to ‘the father’ of the suspect, who went to a U.S. Marshal – ‘who was fantastic by the way.’
Trump said he may need to be corrected, but he’s talking ‘based on what I’m hearing.’
He also noted that authorities don’t know if the suspect is part of a greater network.
“Things may change, but facts are the facts, we have who we’re looking for,” Trump said.
He says he did not want to watch the video of the shooting, adding that he did not want to remember Kirk that way.
The president noted that Kirk was like ‘a son’ to him.
On Wednesday evening (September 10), police initially arrested two people in the aftermath, but both were later released without charge, after they were found to have no connection to the shooting.
Footage of the brutal attack has circulated on X, formerly Twitter, depicting the moment a loud bang was heard.
Kirk was violently struck in the neck before collapsing in his chair, and blood was seen pouring from the wound.
The right-wing activist was taking questions from audience members prior to his death, and was discussing gun violence at the time of the shooting.
Kirk was rushed to a local hospital following the violent shooting, but it was later confirmed by President Trump that the gunshot was fatal.
In a statement, he said: “The great, and even legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.
“No one understood or had the heart of the youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.
“He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.
“Melania and my sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family.
“Charlie, we love you!”
Thousands of students watched on as the horrifying incident unfolded, but also in attendance to the event was Kirk’s wife, Erika Lane, 36, and their two young children.
They witnessed the father-of-two utter his final words, before his security team rushed in an unsuccessful attempt to save his life.
