Charlie Kirk, the controversial conservative activist, was shot and killed while speaking at a college campus.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 10, as he addressed a large crowd of students, with thousands in attendance.

The controversial MAGA influencer, who was the executive director of Turning Point USA, was attacked during an on-campus event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in the U.S.

Footage shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows Kirk speaking at the event when a loud bang is heard, and he is struck in the neck.

The video depicts the conservative commentator shutting his eyes and falling backward in his chair as blood is seen coming from the wound.

People nearby can be heard gasping before several rush toward the 31-year-old.

Another clip, shared by TMZ, captures the scene from further back in the crowd, showing the chaotic aftermath as attendees scream and scatter in panic.

In one video, a person calls out: “Oh my god!” while another yells: “Go! Run, run, run.”

Emma Pitts, a reporter for Deseret News, spoke to CNN and said that a gunshot was heard and ‘then you see Charlie go limp,’ adding: “His neck kind of turned, and we saw blood immediately.”

Pitts, who was at the event, said that Kirk was on his second question when the incident occurred, and that it was ‘regarding mass shootings.’

“The person he was debating had asked about if he knew how many mass shootings had involved a transgender shooter, to which Kirk responded,” she recounted, per The Guardian.

Then ‘he asked how many mass shootings had [there] been in the last couple of years,’ and ‘before he could even answer, we heard a gunshot, and we just saw Charlie Kirk’s neck turn to the side, and it appeared that he had been shot in the neck.’

Following reports of an active shooter, an evacuation was initiated at the UVU campus.

The UVU Police updated its 40,000-plus student body on X, reiterating that students should leave the campus.

“Campus closed, classes canceled until further notice,” the post reads. “Police are investigating. Leave campus immediately. Follow police instructions.”

Five area schools were also placed on lockdown, reports WCHSTV.

Two individuals were initially detained but later released.

Spencer Cox, the Governor of Utah, characterized the event as a ‘political assassination,’ although the shooter’s identity and motive remain unclear.

Meanwhile, authorities are still conducting a manhunt for the activist’s killer.

A statement by UVU sent to the U.S. media, says shots were fired from a building about 200 yards away.

It reads: “At about 12:20, shots were fired from a building about 200 yards from the speaker. To the best of our knowledge, the individual was hit and was taken away immediately by his security personnel.”

Political figures have publicly denounced the shooting of the conservative activist, including President Donald Trump.

In a public statement, the 79-year-old said: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”

California Governor Gavin Newsom called the act ‘disgusting, vile, and reprehensible,’ adding: “We must reject political violence in EVERY form.”

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro briefly took to social media to urge his followers to ‘pray for Charlie and all other innocents.’

Kirk, survived by his wife and two children, was considered by many to be the future of conservative activism, while also being a highly polarizing individual.
