Heartbreaking new details have emerged after a crew member was confirmed to have been killed on the set of a Marvel TV show.

The crew member was working on the forthcoming Marvel TV series Wonder Man at the time of his passing.

The tragic incident took place at the Radford Studio Centre in Los Angeles.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is currently investigating the death.

The filming of Wonder Man, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, was delayed due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. It was reportedly due to restart in March.

In the show, “Hollywood actor Simon Williams is thrust into the world of superheroes as he gets powers of his own, and becomes the new superhero Wonder Man,” per IMDb.

However, the fate of the programme is now hanging in the balance, thanks to the tragedy which took place on set this week.

The deaths of cast members on Hollywood sets are rare, but not unheard of.

The tragic passing of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Alec Baldwin’s movie Rust dominated headlines in 2021.

Baldwin has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

But this week, it’s the death on set of Marvel’s Wonder Man which is breaking the internet’s heart.

The man who died was not originally named, though it has been confirmed he was working as a rigger on the action fantasy series.

Riggers often work high up in scaffolding units, so there is a level of danger and risk which comes with the job.

The man in question died on set after falling from high rafters within the studio.

Filming was not occurring at the time of the incident.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident,” a Marvel spokesperson said in a statement, per the BBC.

IATSE president Matthew D. Loeb issued a statement to Variety, saying: “Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We are working to support our member’s family, and his fellow members and colleagues.”

Loeb continues: “Safety on set is our highest priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way that we can. If you feel unsafe on set for any reason, members can call the IATSE Safety Hotline at 844-422-9273 or use our safety info app.”

People have taken to social media and shared messages of condolences after hearing the news.

One X (formerly known as Twitter) user writes: “Awful news. Prayers out to the family, and friends of this person.”

Another agrees: “I’m sorry to hear about the tragic incident. The loss of a crew member is always deeply saddening. My thoughts go out to their family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

The name of the man has since been revealed.

The Los Angeles Police Department later confirmed and identified him as Juan Carlos Osorio, 41, of Temple City, per Deadline.

Rest in peace.
