Donald Trump’s private White House habits have come under renewed scrutiny after claims about his bedroom routine were revealed in a new book.

The allegations appear in Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, written by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, which has already sparked major political discussion.

The allegations appear in Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, written by New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan.

According to The Mirror, the book offers a behind-the-scenes look at Trump’s return to the White House, detailing everything from the inner workings of his administration to his personal routines inside the presidential residence.

While much of the book focuses on politics, power and life behind closed doors, one particular revelation has left readers especially stunned.

New book lifts the lid on Trump’s White House

Haberman and Swan’s book has made headlines for its claims about Trump’s daily routines, relationships and the atmosphere inside the White House during his second term.

The Independent reports that the book is based on extensive reporting carried out by the veteran New York Times journalists following Trump’s return to office.

According to the authors, the Trumps were keen for the White House to look exactly as it had before they left.

Speaking on The Bulwark podcast, Haberman explained: “When they came back to the White House, the Trumps wanted everything the way it was before, as if they hadn’t left.”

She added that Joe Biden had made relatively few changes to the residence during his presidency.

Melania and Donald reportedly had separate bedrooms

People reports that one of the book’s claims is that Donald and Melania Trump did not share the same bedroom during his second term.

Instead, Melania reportedly occupied the traditional master bedroom while Trump used a separate room nearby.

Haberman claimed Melania was absent from the White House for several months after Trump’s return, leaving him to choose furnishings himself.

She alleged Trump even selected items from elsewhere in the residence that staff believed Melania had wanted to remain where they were.

“To people who worked at the White House, it seemed like he was competing to have a better bedroom than his wife, and they don’t have the same bedroom,” Haberman said, according to The Mirror.

People also reports that Trump’s room was redesigned with lavish gold décor and multiple televisions.

Trump’s eating habits have long sparked debate

The book’s publication has also reignited discussion about Trump’s well-known love of fast food.

Current US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. previously commented on the president’s diet during an appearance on The Katie Miller Podcast.

Asked who had the most “unhinged” eating habits, Kennedy reportedly replied: “He eats really bad food. He has the constitution of a deity. I don’t know how he’s alive, but he is.”

Kennedy also claimed Trump preferred food from major chains because he trusted it.

“He wants to eat food from big corporations because he trusts it and he doesn’t want to get sick when he’s on the road,” he said, according to The Mirror.

Trump’s fondness for McDonald’s has been well documented over the years.

Republican National Committee chair Joe Gruters previously claimed Trump once ate hot fries, a Filet-O-Fish, a Quarter Pounder and a Big Mac during the 2024 campaign.

Trump has also joked publicly about his own eating habits, once saying: “I feel the same as I did 50 years ago. Maybe junk food is good and the other food is no good.”

The bedroom claims that left readers stunned

The most talked-about allegations in Regime Change involve what staff reportedly found inside Trump’s private bedroom.

During her appearance on The Bulwark podcast, Haberman was asked about descriptions in the book that host Tim Miller labelled ‘disgusting.’

According to The Mirror, Miller specifically referenced wrappers and ice cream tubs allegedly found around Trump’s room.

Haberman clarified one detail, explaining an earlier reference to Starbucks wrappers was actually a typo and should have read Starburst wrappers.

The book claims Trump was a frequent late-night snacker.

Haberman and Swan wrote: “A nighttime snacker, the President would frequently leave an array of empty potato chip bags, Starbucks wrappers, and ice cream cartons in the trash, or on the floor.”

As Haberman later clarified, the reference should have been Starburst wrappers rather than Starbucks wrappers.

The book also claims White House staff eventually began monitoring rubbish bins after discovering sterling silver utensils were allegedly being thrown away alongside discarded food packaging.

Even the bathroom reportedly became an issue

Another claim attracting attention concerns Trump’s reported bathroom preferences.

Regime Change alleges Trump insisted on having wall-to-wall carpet installed in his private White House bathroom.

The authors write that the carpet closest to the shower would frequently become soaked.

“The portion nearest the shower would often be soaked through; the staff was never quite sure why, but they worried about mold growing underneath,” Haberman and Swan wrote.

The outlet reports staff eventually placed smaller sections of matching carpet over the wet area and rotated them to dry instead of using a conventional bath mat.

The Daily Beast reports the bedroom and bathroom revelations have reportedly been among the claims that most angered Trump.

According to Zeteo, Trump privately denied the allegations and complained the reporting invaded his privacy.

When approached about Zeteo’s reporting, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle responded to The Daily Beast: “What the hell is a Zeteo?”

The allegations have not been independently verified, and the White House has not publicly addressed each individual claim made in the book.
