Woman Named Her Daughter After A Disney Character: ‘I Don’t Care If People Hate It’
An influencer has faced heavy criticism after choosing an unconventional baby name inspired by a beloved Disney character.
The world of baby names has changed significantly in recent years.
Classic choices such as John, Mary, William, and Elizabeth are becoming less common as more parents embrace creativity and individuality when naming their children.
The days of several students sharing the same name in a classroom are fading fast.
Instead, many parents are looking for names that feel distinctive and memorable, helping their child stand out from the crowd.
For one mom, that desire for originality sparked a heated debate online and prompted her to defend her decision.
Influencer sparks debate over unusual baby name choice
Indy Clinton, an Australian fitness and lifestyle influencer, has built a large online audience thanks to her candid approach to motherhood and family life.
When she first learned she was expecting her second child, Clinton had planned to use the name Paloma. However, she eventually changed her mind and chose something completely different.
The decision quickly divided her followers.
While many praised the name, others argued it could cause problems for the child later in life and even lead to teasing.
“Imagine being an adult named this. These baby names are mad these days,” one person said.
Sarcastically, a second commented: “Are you naming humans that will be adults one day? Or kittens?”
“Definitely bring up the fact that kids are cruel. A unique name isn’t something to shy away from but a unique name that is indelibly tied to a character may not be desirable to your kid,” a third person replied.
“Now imagine being in middle school with a Disney name.”
Not everyone was critical, though.
Defending the choice, one supporter wrote: “People need to shut it. She can name her baby anything she wants. I think it’s adorable.”
Another agreed, adding: “Congratulations! It’s a wonderful name for your baby.”
A third follower simply commented: “So happy, love the name.”

Why unique baby names have become more popular
Clinton is no stranger to selecting uncommon names for her children.
All three of her kids have distinctive names that she carefully considered before making her final decision.
Her older children are named Navy and Soul Valerie.
When Soul was born, Clinton shared a list of alternative names she had considered, many of which sparked plenty of discussion online.
“These are all my baby names… You guys are going to hate them, but I’m going to tell you anyway,” Clinton said.
She continued: “My top name if she wasn’t going to be called Soul, I wanted her to be Cherub, and Ben wanted her to be Dingo if she was a boy.”
Other names she and her partner considered included Heart, Hazy, Halo, and Shiloh.
The Disney-inspired baby name causing controversy
The name Clinton ultimately chose for her daughter was Bambi, the same name as the famous deer from Disney’s 1942 animated classic.
According to MailOnline, the influencer felt the name suited her daughter perfectly because of her ‘sweet, curious nature’ and ‘big brown eyes,’ which reminded her of the iconic character.
“When I was giving birth, I was convinced Bambi was the most unique, unusual name that nobody would use,” Clinton explained.
“We were set on calling her Paloma at first. That was her name, and nothing was going to change that. But I was reading the book to Navy [her son] one night and it came to me. I sat up and yelled, ‘What about Bambi?’ and from then on it stuck.”
Despite the backlash, Clinton said she was not bothered by the criticism, explaining that “unique names are the new trend” and that “people will criticize anything.”
She added: “She couldn’t be a Paloma now – she’s my Bambilicious.”
According to Babynames.com, Bambi is a diminutive form of the Italian word bambino, meaning ‘child.’
A controversial past
This isn’t the first time Clinton has sparked controversy for her parenting choices, though.
She previously admitted she had changed the birthday of her youngest daughter, Soul, who was born in 2023. The mom changed her birthday from December 18 to December 12.
“She was actually just too close to Christmas for my liking, and I just thought, going forward, she’s never going to know we have officially changed it,” she said.
“If you see this, can you thank me? Because I’ve done this for attention reasons.”
