JonBenét Ramsey’s family has made a bombshell announcement about new DNA evidence that could change everything.

When six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey was reported missing from her home in Colorado on December 26, 1996, the mystery became one of the most tragic and well-documented unsolved cases of all time.

When police attended her home, they found a note on the staircase demanding $118,000 – a figure close to her father’s bonus.

But later that day, her body was found in the basement of their home, and the horrifying truth revealed that she had been s**ually assaulted and brutally murdered.

At first, her family were considered the most likely suspects.

But as investigators explored various theories, contaminated evidence became an issue.

A breakthrough in 2008, thanks to advanced DNA testing, excluded the possibility of her family being involved in the murder.

The six-year-old pageant contestant suffered a skull fracture from being strangled with a garrote made from cord and a paintbrush.

An ‘unexplained third party’ was held responsible for the heinous crime while investigators searched for new leads.

But some decades later, her father, John Ramsey, has revealed that new tests are being conducted, and her family is hopeful for answers.

He and his long-time lawyer, Hal Haddon, made an appearance at CrimeCon in Colorado on Saturday (September 6), where he made a statement about his daughter’s perpetrator.

The lawyer noted: “I have pressed hard for DNA analysis of the knots in this garrote, which our DNA experts say could be quite promising, because someone had to tie those – and they’re fairly sophisticated.”

Haddon added: “Someone had to use their fingers and likely got their DNA in these knots.

“They’ve never done that [testing], and I questioned them on that every time that we’ve met.”

Going into more detail about the weapon used, he noted: “The handle on this garrote is wooden, and that wooden handle has never been tested for DNA, even though splinters from that handle were found on and inside the body of JonBenét.”

He claimed that the murder was ‘extraordinarily premeditated.’

In 2024, Netflix’s three-part documentary, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey, explored the unsolved case.

Speaking at CrimeCon, John, the six-year-old’s father, said: “There are outside labs, a few that are really good at it – and not only can they do the testing, which is needed now, but get the sample in the right format to do the genealogy research.

“We have unidentified male DNA, but it’s not in a format compatible with databases.”
