Meghan Markle Finally Reveals Her Full Legal Name After Sharing New Surname
Meghan Markle has set the record straight about her surname after changing her full legal name.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, has revealed what her real name actually is, after marrying Prince Harry in 2018.
The royal couple share two young children, Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, and Markle noted that she didn’t realize how important a family surname would be until they came along.
While her maiden name is Markle, and is what she is widely known by, Markle is actually no longer her surname.
Talk of the change first came about in an episode of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, when she corrected Mindy Kaling calling her ‘Meghan Markle’ and said: “You know I’m Sussex now.”
But during a Bloomberg Originals interview, released the same day season two of her show premiered on the streaming platform, Markle set the record straight for good.

Host Emily Chang asked: “Give me a tutorial on royal naming conventions.
“So like, are you Meghan Sussex? Are you Meghan, Duchess of Sussex?
“Is Markle even on your passport anymore? Is it, we don’t use that term anymore?”
With so many questions to answer, Markle divulged exactly what she would like to be known as.
The mom-of-two said: “Well, when I got married, I changed my name.
“But it’s a complicated one for people to understand, because a last name is not typical in that construct.”
Chang replied: “I think we expect a last name. But is that a last name or is that – ?”
Markle added: “It’s not, but it’s, it’s used roughly, or loosely, rather.
“It sounds so silly to say. And I get it, because I’m American, and then I went there and I started to understand.
“It’s a dukedom.”
Explaining what it meant, she said: “So, that’s the truth of it.
“But at the end of the day, you know, yes.
“My legal name is Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, but Sussex for us works as our family name and it’s the name that we share with our children.”

The Duchess noted that since her lavish royal wedding, that is what her legal name has been.
After being asked what she has learnt about herself since becoming a Sussex, she noted: “What I learned about myself is no matter what my name is or what people call me, I’m still the same person.
“So that didn’t really, that didn’t change who I am. And maybe that’s probably the biggest distinguishing factor.”
Though Mountbatten-Windsor has been the official last name for the descendants of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip since 1960, Markle and Prince Harry have decided to break the mould.
Although they call their children Sussex, on their birth certificate is Mountbatten-Windsor.
Speaking to People magazine on a different occasion, the royal added: “I love that it’s something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.
“It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children.”
