Missing Man Found Trapped Inside Fish Tank After Month-Long Search
People on social media are just discovering the grim tale of Brian Egg, a missing man whose headless corpse was discovered in a fish tank several weeks after he went missing.
Nearly eight years on, the gruesome circumstances surrounding the 65-year-old’s death remain a mystery.
It was July 2018 when Brian’s family first reported him missing from his home in San Francisco, but it wasn’t until a month later, when his neighbors reported suspicious activity at address, that cops searched the property with dogs.
During this search, authorities made a grim discovery.
According to the man’s neighbors, Brian was a stand up member of the local community, regularly picking up trash and cleaning up alleyways. So, when no one had seen him for several weeks, concerns for his welfare started to grow in his neighborhood.
Locals expressed that initially, police didn’t take these reports seriously and it was several weeks before they finally convinced cops to conduct their search, after two strangers were reported going in and out of Brian’s home, seemingly using it as their own.
His local community launched a social media campaign to try and track him down, but their efforts were fruitless until Brian’s brother Devin called his phone for a catch up, and on the third attempt, it was answered by a man who said his name was ‘Nate.’
The man told Devin that Brian was out taking his dog for a walk and would call him back, but the phone call never happened.
By August, Brian’s sister was so alarmed she hadn’t heard from him in months that she alerted police, who went to his address, but left shortly afterwards when no one answered the door. A week later he was officially reported as a missing person, despite not having been seen for more than a month.
Around this time, neighbors reported seeing a deep and thorough cleaning happening within the property, and a crime scene clean up company parked up outside the home.

Cops found Brian’s corpse in a fish tank
After learning about the crime scene clean up, police finally appeared to take the concerns seriously, and on attending Brian’s home, they arrested one of the men who had been spotted coming in and out of the house, Robert McCaffrey.
Two days later, they arrested the second man, Lance Silva. Both men were charged with ID theft and financial crimes after it was discovered they had been using Brian’s credit cards for a number of purchases, including buying a car.
After finally conducting a thorough search throughout the home, cops found a storage room under a staircase, where a hidden fish tank was located. Inside the fish tank was a headless corpse, which was later confirmed to belong to Brian.
The two men were charged with homicide, however all charges were later dropped by prosecutors due to insufficient evidence. To this day, no one has ever formally been held responsible for Brian’s tragic death and the circumstances which led to him being found in such grim circumstances remain a mystery.
Neighbors angry at how the case was handled

One neighbor, who was an active member in trying to search for Brian, expressed his anger at the fact no perpetrator was ever brought forward for his murder.
“The murderer is free and roaming the streets and can claim his next victim,” Scot Free said. “I want a more thorough investigation. I want someone arrested.”
Another neighbor took to social media to vent his frustrations over how the case was handled, after learning that one of the suspects had been released.
“This is really shocking,” Matt Haney wrote on Facebook, as reported by the Guardian.
“A couple of guys were found in Brian Egg’s house, after hiring a cleaning crew, and using his credit cards. After a couple of checks on the house, they found his mutilated body in a fish tank.
“And yet now there is apparently no suspect in his death, no further information, and his family finds out through the media that the one suspect has been released. This is awful.”
San Francisco police held a press conference in which they defended not taking action sooner, insisting there wasn’t sufficient evidence of a break in, however Brian’s neighbors have strongly refuted these claims.
