A horrifying note written by the suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has been found by police.

The 50-year-old executive was fatally shot on December 4 outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, where he was scheduled to speak at an investor conference.

Authorities have since identified Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old, as the prime suspect in the case, and shared his alleged manifesto with the world.

Police arrested Mangione on December 9 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after he was recognized by a McDonald’s employee.

He was found in possession of a ‘ghost gun,’ a type of untraceable firearm, along with a silencer and a fraudulent ID.

Authorities believe the weapon was likely the one used in Thompson’s murder. Mangione’s arrest marks a dramatic break in the case, which has captivated public attention.

Investigators believe the gunman traveled to New York on November 24, taking a bus from Atlanta, the BBC reports.

He stayed at a hostel on the Upper West Side from November 24 to November 29, before returning on November 30 with a fake New Jersey ID.

On the day of the shooting, the suspect waited behind a car near the Hilton Hotel for about five minutes before ambushing Thompson as he exited.

Witnesses described the shooter as wearing a black hoodie, and black pants, and carrying a gray backpack.

Surveillance footage captured a bystander fleeing as the gunman fired, reportedly clearing a malfunction before continuing to shoot.

Thompson was struck in the calf and back and succumbed to his injuries at Mount Sinai West Hospital.

Authorities believe the shooter used a silencer to muffle the sound of the gunfire.

After fleeing on foot, the suspect was seen riding an e-bike through Central Park and later taking a taxi to a bus terminal.

Luigi Mangione, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, has no previous arrests in New York, but he has ties to San Francisco and Maryland.

He most recently lived in Honolulu, Hawaii.

A high school valedictorian at the prestigious Gilman School in Baltimore, Mangione came from a wealthy family involved in several businesses, including a country club and nursing homes.

His family, including a cousin who is a Republican lawmaker, has expressed shock and devastation over the charges.

Mangione had been disconnected from his family in recent months, with some reports suggesting his contact with them stopped about a year ago after a surfing accident that led to back surgery.

Friends described him as having severe mental health issues following the surgery.

Mangione’s family has expressed their devastation over the events. A brief statement from them read`; “We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved.”

Despite the family’s shock, Mangione’s friends noted a significant shift in his behavior following his back surgery, with some suggesting that the procedure may have contributed to his mental breakdown.

As authorities continue to investigate, they are exploring potential motives, including the suspect’s alleged anger toward the insurance industry.

CBS News reported that the words ‘deny,’ ‘defend,’ and ‘depose’ were found on bullet casings at the scene, possibly referencing the ‘three D’s of insurance’ – a term often used by critics of the industry.

This, coupled with Mangione’s manifesto and his personal history, suggests a targeted attack motivated by a personal vendetta against the health insurance sector.

A key development in the investigation is a manifesto found on Mangione’s person, which reportedly targets corporate America, including a reference to the health insurance industry, per LBC.

The manifesto contained a line that read, ‘These parasites had it coming,’ along with an apology for any resulting trauma, stating: “I do apologize for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done.”

Mangione also criticized the health insurance sector for profiting off of people’s suffering, stating that the companies ‘continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allowed them to get away with it.’

The investigation into the murder remains ongoing, with authorities seeking further evidence to confirm Mangione’s motives and to bring justice to Thompson’s family.
