Mom Of 16 Kids Rescued From Ohio House Of Horrors Makes Disturbing Request

The mom of 16 children who were rescued from the Ohio ‘House of Horrors’ has made a concerning request to the judge following her arrest.

Earlier this month, authorities uncovered a deeply disturbing scene that sent shockwaves across the United States after 16 children, ranging in age from just 18 months to 18 years old, were discovered living in unimaginable conditions.

The property has since been labeled the ‘House of Horrors’ after investigators found the children confined to a single 12-foot-by-12-foot room.

According to officials, the space was covered in human feces and urine and contained dangerous levels of bacteria and filth, creating an environment so unsanitary that it immediately raised fears for the children’s health and safety.

Four family members were arrested and charged with child endangerment, including Elizabeth Siders, who is believed to be the biological mother of al 16 children.

What authorities found inside quickly became one of the most harrowing child neglect cases in recent memory, with investigators describing conditions that many struggled to comprehend.

Children ‘almost feral’ due to isolation

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said several of the children were found to be ‘almost feral’ after allegedly spending years cut off from the outside world.

Investigators said many of the youngsters struggled to communicate normally, while others were reportedly unable to spell or even write their own names.

Authorities also found significant developmental delays among many of the children, who reportedly displayed little understanding of normal social interaction after living in prolonged isolation.

Officials have emphasized that describing the children as ‘feral’ was never intended to dehumanize them.

Instead, they said the term reflects the devastating level of neglect and isolation the children had allegedly endured, according to the Guardian.

“Most of our livestock was kept in better conditions than the children,” Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain said during a news conference, adding: “Just a disgusting scene.”

Once first responders entered the home, they quickly realized they were dealing with a medical emergency rather than simply a criminal investigation.

Seven of the children were transported to hospitals across Ohio for treatment, while two were airlifted to trauma centers. At least one child was reported to be in critical condition.

Officials later revealed that some of the children may not have survived had they remained inside the home much longer.

The case has also prompted questions about how the family managed to remain unnoticed for so many years.

Authorities say many of the children had never attended school, received medical treatment, or appeared in many government records, leaving them largely invisible to the outside world.

Four family members charged

Police have arrested four members of the same family in connection with the case.

Among them are 33-year-old Elizabeth Siders and her husband, 36-year-old Gary Siders Jr., who investigators believe are the parents of the children.

Also charged are Gary Siders Sr., 73, and Christina Siders, 66, who are believed to be the children’s grandparents.

Each has been charged with 16 counts of second-degree felony child endangerment.

All four defendants have pleaded not guilty.

Their bonds have each been set at $300,000, and if convicted on every count, they could face decades behind bars, according to People.

Authorities did not initially arrive at the property because of concerns about the children.

Instead, the investigation began after Gary Siders Jr. was arrested on four counts of public indecency, leading investigators to obtain a search warrant that ultimately exposed what prosecutors have described as the ‘House of Horrors.’

Elizabeth’s attorney, Thomas Stolly, has since revealed that his client married Gary when she was just 15 years old after leaving high school.

Speaking to ABC 6, he said every child found inside the property was biologically Elizabeth’s and Gary’s and that all of the children had been born in hospitals in the surrounding area.

A relative connected to the family also suggested Elizabeth’s upbringing had been troubled.

“She escaped to Lynn [Christina] and Gary’s house, which was, back then a normal American home,” Ronnie Fletcher, who is married to one of Gary Sr. and Christina’s adult daughters, said.

Meanwhile, LA Mag reports that a man identifying himself as Elizabeth’s brother has shared claims on social media that his sister had been ‘indoctrinated’ by the Siders.

He said he had only recently reunited with her after spending 15 years apart and claimed he believes “the state knows something.”

According to Stolly, Elizabeth’s first concern after her arrest was not her own legal situation, but the wellbeing of her children.

“She asked if her children were okay, she asked if I knew where they were, and she asked when she’d be able to see them again,” Stolly said, adding that she was “crying and exhausted” but didn’t ask if she could leave jail.

Heartbreaking new details emerge

As investigators continue piecing together the family’s history, another tragic detail has emerged.

Although several media outlets have reported that Elizabeth gave birth to 20 children, with her first pregnancy reportedly occurring when she was only 13 years old, newly obtained records have revealed that two of those children were conjoined twins.

State vital statistics records obtained by WOWK 13 show that on November 20, 2022, Elizabeth, now 33, gave birth to daughters Bailey Lee and Faith Lee Siders at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

The babies were born at just 24 weeks gestation with thoracopagus, a rare condition in which twins are joined at the chest and face while developing in the womb.

Tragically, both infants died later that same day.

Their deaths were officially recorded as resulting from natural causes.

The revelation has added another emotional layer to a case that continues to raise difficult questions about years of alleged abuse, neglect, and isolation, as investigators work to understand how so many children remained hidden from public view for so long.

Elizabeth Siders makes request to judge

In the latest update to the twisted case, it has been reported that Elizabeth Siders has put in a request for a recognizance bond that would allow her to leave jail under certain circumstances, the New York Post reports.

Her lawyer has argued that she should be eligible given her lack of previous criminal history.

A recognizance bond is a formal, court-recorded written agreement where a released defendant promises to appear for all future court dates and comply with specified conditions.

In this case, Stolly argues that the only thing Siders wants is to be able to see her children again, and that ‘she understands that reunification of any sort is an impossibility if she does not appear before this court.’

He goes on to say that she would be no threat to her children as they are no longer in her care.

The judge is yet to make a ruling on this.
