One of Nostradamus’ 2026 predictions has ‘come true’ just months into the year.

As we navigate the early weeks of 2026, believers in the prophetic powers of the 16th-century French astrologer Nostradamus are pointing to recent events as chilling evidence that his predictions are materializing before our eyes.

Who is Nostradamus?

Michel de Nostredame, better known by his Latinized name Nostradamus, was a French physician, astrologer, and prophet who lived during the Renaissance period.

Born in 1503, he published his most famous work, ‘Les Prophéties,’ in 1555, a collection containing 942 predictions written as cryptic verses in a mixture of obscure Latin phrases and archaic French.

This deliberate obscurity has made his writings notoriously difficult to decipher, yet believers claim his prophecies have proven remarkably accurate over the centuries.

Followers assert he successfully predicted some of the most significant events in human history, including the September 11 terrorist attacks, the death of Princess Diana, and the atomic bombings during World War II.

More recently, many have interpreted his verses as foretelling the global Covid-19 pandemic.

What predictions did Nostradamus make for 2026?

Nostradamus outlined four particularly disturbing predictions for 2026, each more unsettling than the last.

The first involves what he described as ‘the great swarm of bees’ arising with a nighttime ambush, which interpreters suggest could symbolize powerful world leaders achieving significant victories or potentially the spread of invasive species.

The second prediction speaks of rivers running red with blood, specifically mentioning the Swiss region of Ticino.

This prophecy is particularly alarming given Switzerland’s centuries-long tradition of neutrality, suggesting that even nations synonymous with peace might not escape violence in 2026.

The third and most apocalyptic prediction involves the god of war himself, Mars.

Nostradamus wrote of human blood sprinkling sanctuaries, three fires rising from the eastern sides, and the West losing its light in silence, suggesting global military conflict or perhaps the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence in Eastern nations while Western countries fall behind.

Finally, a single verse predicts that a ‘great man will be struck down in the day by a thunderbolt,’ suggesting the sudden death of a prominent celebrity, political leader, or member of royalty during a public appearance.

Which prediction has come true?

The prediction that has seemingly manifested most dramatically involves the prophecy of rivers running red with blood.

In Nostradamus’s verse about Ticino, he wrote in standard French that the region ‘will overflow with blood.’

While Switzerland itself has not yet experienced the bloodshed suggested by this prophecy, the broader theme of rivers turning crimson has materialized in a way that has captured global attention and sparked fears of biblical prophecies coming to pass.

Beyond the rivers of blood, Nostradamus’s writings have been interpreted as predicting catastrophic flooding events.

This prediction appears to align disturbingly well with the recent devastation wrought by storms Ingrid and Chandra across the United Kingdom, per the BBC.

Storm Ingrid battered Devon and Cornwall in late January, with massive waves causing the collapse of sea walls next to the main railway line, washing away a historic Victorian pier in Teignmouth, and severely damaging homes in the beauty spot of Torcross, The Guardian reports.

The flood predictions

Even more alarming is the fulfillment of what appears to be another dimension of Nostradamus’s flood prediction.

Recent analysis by insurance broker Willis Towers Watson has revealed that flood losses in Southeast Asia may grow as much as tenfold in the coming years due to the rise of extreme weather events, per the Japan Times.

Its Natural Catastrophe Review 2026 report indicates that major regional flooding events now have the potential to cause economic losses exceeding $10 billion, compared with the typical $1 billion to $2 billion range of the past decade.

This dramatic escalation appears to validate interpretations of Nostradamus’s prophecies about unprecedented flooding.

Last year ended with three tropical cyclones unleashing destruction from Sri Lanka to Indonesia, leaving more than 1,300 dead and causing at least $20 billion in losses.

Countries in Southeast Asia consistently rank among those most vulnerable to flood risks, with the Philippines, Myanmar, and Vietnam among the ten nations most affected by climate change in 2024.

Researchers have found that warming oceans are making storms more intense, and even small temperature changes can radically alter storm tracks, creating conditions that make historical patterns unreliable guides to future risk.

Perhaps the most visually striking fulfillment of Nostradamus’s prediction occurred in mid-December when the waters of Iran’s Hormuz Island turned a deep, blood-red color, per Metro.

Viral videos captured the moment when heavy rainfall (approximately 100mm, five times Iran’s monthly average) poured over the island’s iron-oxide-rich red soil, creating streams of what appeared to be flowing blood that cascaded over cliffs and flooded into the Persian Gulf.

The scenes eerily paralleled biblical depictions of blood rain and red water, which have historically been interpreted as signs of the End Times.

In the Book of Exodus, the Nile River turning to blood was the first of ten plagues God sent upon Egypt. Similarly, apocalyptic prophecies in the Book of Revelation describe seas turning to blood, signifying divine judgment.

While scientists explained the phenomenon as a natural occurrence caused by the island’s abundant iron oxide interacting with rainwater, the timing, just before 2026 began, seemed uncanny to those familiar with Nostradamus’s predictions.

Hormuz Island, nicknamed ‘Rainbow Island,’ is geologically famous for its colorful mineral soils formed over millions of years, containing more than 70 minerals. During heavy rainstorms, the effect of ‘flowing red blood’ regularly occurs, but the intensity and timing of this particular event captured global attention.

This wasn’t an isolated incident. In August, the biblical Sea of Galilee in Israel also turned a vivid blood-red, caused by a bloom of green algae that turned red when natural pigments built up under intense sunlight.

While officials confirmed the phenomenon was harmless, the repeated occurrences of bodies of water turning crimson across the Middle East have fueled speculation among Nostradamus believers that his prophecies are unfolding.
