Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s marriage is reportedly at breaking point amid rumors of ‘2026 divorce.’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are facing mounting speculation about the state of their marriage as sources close to the couple reveal deepening tensions over their future.

What began as a united front following their dramatic departure from royal life has evolved into what insiders describe as an increasingly strained relationship, with fundamental disagreements threatening to pull the couple apart.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK exit

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020, they presented a picture of solidarity.

The couple relocated to California seeking a fresh start, hoping to escape the relentless media scrutiny and build independent careers away from the constraints of royal duty.

Their move to Montecito was supposed to mark the beginning of a new chapter, one where they could raise their children in privacy and pursue ventures aligned with their personal values.

For years, the couple maintained what appeared to be an unshakeable partnership. Markle once famously described their relationship by saying they were like ‘salt and pepper’ – always being passed around together.

This metaphor captured what many saw as their inseparable bond, both personally and professionally. They launched the Archewell Foundation together, signed joint deals with streaming platforms, and appeared side-by-side at major events.

However, recent months have painted a dramatically different picture. The couple has been making increasingly frequent solo public appearances, fueling widespread speculation about a potential rift.

Markle has been spotted at high-profile events including Paris Fashion Week and Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit without her husband, while Prince Harry has attended speaking engagements and charitable functions alone.

Duke and Duchess of Sussex undergo ‘professional separation’

The Duchess has now openly acknowledged what she describes as a ‘professional separation’ from her husband.

In a candid interview, Markle addressed the shift in their public dynamic, explaining their approach to balancing joint ventures with individual pursuits.

“I imagine that it’s the same as it would be for any couple. You have your individual jobs, but then you have things that you share together,” Markle explained.

She emphasized that despite their separate projects, their bond remains strong: “We’ve been such a close team for so long that we’re just in it beat by beat with each other. And I love that. To be able to be a female founder and do that with my husband’s support means everything.”

The divergence in their career paths has become increasingly apparent. Markle has thrown herself into building a commercial lifestyle empire, focusing on her brand As Ever, which curates home and kitchen products.

She’s also developing the Netflix TV series With Love, Meghan, which showcases her expertise in cooking, gardening, and hosting.

Additionally, she’s launched a podcast called ‘Confessions of a Female Founder,’ featuring conversations with successful female entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry has concentrated his efforts on charitable and advocacy-driven work. His primary focus remains the Invictus Games, a competition supporting wounded and sick military personnel, alongside the couple’s joint Archewell Foundation.

He also holds two corporate positions as chief impact officer for coaching company BetterUp and working with sustainable tourism company Travalyst.

Public relations experts have noted this strategic shift. Mark Borkowski observed that :”Meghan is no longer half of a royal duo. She’s re-emerging as a solo brand. global, aspirational, and strategically aloof. The royal chapter was about proximity to power. This one’s about reclaiming it.”

Marriage at ‘breaking point’

Despite official statements downplaying concerns, sources close to the couple paint a more troubling picture.

TalkTV presenter Mark Dolan recently delivered a stark assessment, claiming that discussions about potentially returning to Britain have placed their marriage under severe strain, the Express reports.

“Britain has placed their marriage at breaking point. Some insiders have described it as a provocative and extreme strain on the marriage, and Meghan’s not happy,” Dolan stated.

He added that: “The question of Britain and the UK has been unresolved for years, and has become a defining fault line between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. It has also caused emotional distance and repeated arguments behind closed doors.”

The fundamental disagreement reportedly centers on Prince Harry’s growing desire to reconnect with his homeland and family.

Sources suggest the Duke harbors increasing nostalgia for the UK and wishes to repair fractured relationships with the Royal Family, particularly given recent health challenges affecting his father, King Charles. Prince Harry made a brief visit to Clarence House in September, signaling his willingness to bridge the divide.

In stark contrast, Markle reportedly has no interest in returning to the country where she faced what she views as relentless hostility. She hasn’t visited the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022 and allegedly sees any potential return as reopening deeply painful wounds.

An insider revealed to a prominent outlet that the disagreement is ‘deeply emotional’ and ‘threatens to tear them apart – geographically and emotionally.’

The source clarified: “The tension between them isn’t rooted in a breakdown of affection or commitment,” suggesting the issues are more complex than simple marital discord.

These conversations reportedly intensified over the Christmas period and have continued into the new year, with the couple facing difficult decisions about their children’s schooling and long-term living arrangements.

Prince Harry has publicly expressed his desire for reconciliation, stating he would ‘love’ a reunion with his family.

When questioned about divorce rumors at December’s DealBook Summit in New York, Prince Harry attempted to deflect the speculation with humor: “Apparently, we’ve bought or moved house maybe 10 or 12 times, and we’ve apparently divorced maybe 10 or 12 times as well. So, it’s just like, ‘what?’ It’s hard to keep up.”

Nevertheless, insiders suggest that beneath the public denials, genuine challenges persist.

As one source noted, it’s ‘healthy for them as a couple to have separate spheres, identities, and passion projects,’ yet the geographic and emotional distance created by their fundamental disagreements about the future may prove more difficult to overcome than either anticipated.
