Prince Philip’s Brutal Nickname For Meghan Markle Exposed
Prince Philip is reported to have had his own private nickname for Meghan Markle, and let’s just say it’s pretty savage.
A revealing book about the life of Prince Philip, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 99, claims the late royal had an unflattering nickname for the Duchess of Sussex.
Prince Harry and Meghan remain among the most divisive figures within the royal family, following their decision to step away from their roles as senior royals in 2020, breaking with long-standing royal tradition in the process.
These days, the couple are based primarily in Montecito, California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet Sussex.
Claims surrounding the Queen’s views
In royal biographer Ingrid Seward’s book My Mother and I, startling claims have surfaced regarding Queen Elizabeth II and her reported feelings about Harry and Meghan leaving royal life behind.
One excerpt alleges the late Queen remarked that Markle’s wedding gown was ‘too white’ for a divorcée.
For the ceremony, Meghan chose a timeless gown featuring long sleeves, a floor-length silhouette, and a bateau neckline.
Seward wrote (via MailOnline): “In the monarch’s view, it was not appropriate for a divorcée getting remarried in church to look quite so flamboyantly virginal.”
The royal parallels people can’t ignore
While the book contains several eye-opening claims, one revelation in particular has generated major attention, Prince Philip’s reported comparison between Meghan and another controversial royal figure.
According to Seward, Philip believed there were striking similarities between Markle and a woman whose relationship with the monarchy changed royal history forever.
The author claimed Prince Philip found it ‘uncanny’ how much Meghan reminded him of the glamorous American divorcée.
Seward explained: “He was simply referring to the fact that both were pencil-slim, dark-haired, and glamorous American divorcées.”
Before marrying Prince Harry, Markle had been married to film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 until their split in 2014.
Observers have also pointed out that both women stepped away from royal duties alongside their husbands.
Comparisons between Harry and Edward VIII
Royal expert Hugo Vickers suggested in 2022 that Prince Harry may have more in common with Edward VIII than he realizes.
Speaking to the New York Post, Vickers claimed both men “radiated the same sadness after cutting their links with the royal family.”
He also said Edward and Harry each “took the path of perceived happiness” when they married.
“As for the Duke of Sussex, who knows what’s going to happen to him? I think he looks thoroughly miserable,” Vickers remarked.
The meaning behind Prince Philip’s nickname
The alleged nickname becomes especially brutal when considering the history behind it.
Prince Philip reportedly referred to Meghan Markle as D.o.W., short for the ‘Duchess of Windsor,’ which was the title given to Wallis Simpson after she married Edward VIII.
Wallis Simpson was an American socialite whose relationship with King Edward VIII sparked one of the biggest scandals in royal history. Edward famously abdicated the throne in 1936 because he wanted to marry Simpson, who was twice divorced at the time; something that was considered unacceptable for a reigning monarch.
After giving up the crown, Edward was given the title Duke of Windsor, and the pair left Britain with Simpson becoming one of the most disliked figures associated with the royal family.
The Queen Mother, in particular, reportedly held deep resentment toward Simpson and even refused to grant her the HRH title.
Biographer Anna Sebba explained (per the Express): “The significance of not making Wallace HRH was that nobody would curtsey to Wallace if they came back to England.
“So actually, this was a real snub, a real humiliation at a number of levels.
“And Edward always fought against it. He argued, ‘I can’t possibly bring my wonderful wife back to England to be humiliated if people aren’t going to curtsey to her.’
“So, with one stroke, effectively, they were exiled as well.”
