Savannah Guthrie Makes Desperate Plea As New Details Emerge In Mom’s Abduction
Savannah Guthrie has issued a desperate plea in the search for her 84-year-old mother, as new details emerge in what authorities are calling a criminal abduction.
As the investigation enters its fourth day, law enforcement officials have confirmed they are racing against time to locate the elderly woman who requires daily medication to survive.
The missing woman’s daughter is the well-known television journalist who co-hosts NBC’s morning news program Today.

About Savannah Guthrie
Now 54, Guthrie has built a successful career in broadcasting after initially training as an attorney.
Her legal background includes graduating from Georgetown’s law school and scoring highest on Arizona’s bar examination in 2002.
Her broadcasting career has spanned over twenty years.
She started at local stations before moving to NBC, where she initially covered the White House beginning in late 2008. She joined the Today show team in 2011 and later advanced to her current co-anchor role on the long-running program.
Her work has included political reporting, interviews with notable figures, and hosting NBC’s Olympic broadcasts.
Her annual compensation is estimated at around $8 million. Before this family emergency, she had recently taken medical leave for throat surgery, staying off-air throughout late December and into January.

Savannah Guthrie’s relationship with her mom, Nancy
Nancy has been central to her daughter’s life, particularly following the sudden death of Guthrie’s father in 1988 from cardiac arrest when Savannah was sixteen.
The television host regularly honors her mother in public statements, crediting Nancy with demonstrating selfless devotion, religious conviction, and inner fortitude.
For Nancy’s milestone 80th birthday in 2022, Guthrie praised her mother’s unwavering reliability and firm belief as foundational to her children’s accomplishments.
In a 2024 Mother’s Day message, Guthrie described Nancy as the most precious blessing in her life.
Nancy maintains her own household in Tucson’s upscale Catalina Foothills district with assistance from employees, though none reside with her full-time.
The mysterious disappearance
Family members last saw Nancy around 9:30 p.m. on January 31, after she returned home from a restaurant.
When she didn’t attend Sunday morning church services as expected, relatives became worried and visited her residence, contacting emergency services near midday.
The scene raised immediate red flags for investigators – lights remained illuminated throughout the home, and personal items, including her cellular phone, identification, and vehicle, were all present.
The entrance showed no signs of being secured. Evidence suggested someone may have broken into the property.

Pima County’s chief law enforcement officer, Sheriff Chris Nanos, expressed strong conviction during Monday’s media briefing that the woman was taken against her will, stating she neither departed on foot nor left voluntarily.
Family members informed authorities that the octogenarian has severe difficulties with movement and could not cover even short distances unassisted, though her mental faculties remain fully intact.
Nancy’s medical needs are urgent – she requires daily heart medications, has a cardiac implant, and suffers from elevated blood pressure. Without these treatments, her health may rapidly deteriorate to dangerous levels.
Initial response efforts included aerial drones, aircraft patrols, canine units, thermal imaging technology, and community volunteers. However, the focus has now transitioned from a missing person case to a criminal probe.
The Los Angeles Times reported that blood was found inside the home, though Sheriff Nanos declined to elaborate on whose blood or where it was located.
Guthrie’s plea
Guthrie has remained largely absent from public view since her mother’s disappearance, missing her Today show duties as she focuses on her family during this crisis.
She will also not be joining NBC Sports for coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony, which she had been scheduled to co-host.
On Monday evening, the journalist took to Instagram with a faith-driven plea for her mother’s safe return.
“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope,” she wrote. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant.”
She concluded her emotional message with a simple, powerful appeal: “Bring her home.”

The statement from Guthrie read: “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”
The anchor’s security team has been in touch with the sheriff’s department, though law enforcement is not aware of any threats against the TV anchor.
Guthrie’s husband, Michael Feldman, told reporters he feels ‘mostly unhelpful’ during this difficult time despite trying to be ‘responsive’ to the situation, per Yahoo.
A source close to the family told CNN that whoever has Nancy ‘could drop her off at any fire station, hospital, grocery store’ and ‘there would be no questions asked.’
Devastating new details emerge
In a chilling development, multiple media outlets have reported receiving what appear to be ransom notes.
TMZ revealed that its newsroom received a ransom note demanding millions in bitcoin for Nancy’s release.
The note provided a specific Bitcoin address for payment and described an item in Nancy’s home that was damaged during her disappearance, suggesting the sender has inside knowledge of the crime scene.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office responded swiftly to the ransom note reports.
“We are aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie,” the department stated. “We are taking all tips and leads very seriously. Anything that comes in goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.”

Sheriff Nanos revealed that investigators have received ‘hundreds of leads’ in the case, though no suspect has yet been identified. The FBI is now assisting with the investigation, lending federal resources to the search.
Jon Edwards, the FBI’s special agent in charge in Tucson, said his agency is examining the case from all angles, including cell phone records and cell tower information.
DNA samples from Guthrie’s home have been submitted to labs for testing, according to Sheriff Nanos, per the BBC.
“We’ve gotten some back, but nothing to indicate any suspects,” he said.
Authorities have processed the scene inside and outside the residence and have turned the house over to the Guthrie family.
When asked by CBS News about the credibility of the ransom note, Sheriff Nanos said authorities are ‘absolutely not’ dismissing it.
“When the note comes to us, it’s like any piece of evidence. You give it to us. You give us a lead. We’re going to look at every aspect of that lead and work it as a lead,” Nanos explained.
Authorities have offered a $2,500 reward through nonprofit group 88-Crime for information leading to an arrest.

Sheriff Nanos made an emotional plea: “Just call us, let her go,” while urging neighbors to review security camera footage from between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
“We have someone’s life who is in jeopardy,” Nanos stressed.
The White House also weighed in, offering prayers for the Guthrie family and Nancy’s safe return in a post on social media.
President Donald Trump indicated he would call Guthrie and expressed openness to committing more federal resources to the search.
As the investigation continues, one thing remains clear: time is of the essence.
With Nancy requiring daily medication and her health potentially at risk, authorities and the Guthrie family are united in their desperate hope for her safe return.
As the investigation enters its fourth day, law enforcement officials have confirmed they are examining possible ransom notes while racing against time to locate the elderly woman who requires daily medication to survive.
