Scientists Find Evidence That Confirms Adam And Eve ‘Actually Existed’
Scientists have reportedly found evidence that ‘confirms the existence’ of Adam and Eve.
It’s a story many people, Christian or not, will be familiar with.
According to the Bible, Adam and Eve were the first man and woman on Earth and lived in the Garden of Eden.
The figures are central to the belief that everyone descended from a single pair of original ancestors.
Although it may seem hard to believe, many archeologists now believe at least some parts of the story are true.
Archeologists have found evidence that Eden was not only a real place, but possibly where civilization as we know it began.
Interestingly, the Bible provides a general description of where the mystical garden is located.
Genesis states that a river flows through Eden and is divided into four branches: The Pishon, the Gihon, the Tigris, and the Euphrates.
The Tigris and the Euphrates are known to this day and flow through what is modern-day Iraq.
Yet the location of Pishon and the Gihon, if they still exist, is unknown.
Many theories have sprung up about where Eden could be, ranging from Mongolia to Jackson County Missouri.
Yet Mesopotamia, a historical region of West Asia, is believed to be the most promising.
Many scientists are also convinced that all living humans really have descended from a single woman.
As Smithsonian Magazine explains: “The ‘mitochondrial Eve’ refers to mitochondrial DNA, a unique genetic code passed down from female to female.”
Although ‘mitochondrial Eve’ was not the first human, every other female lineage eventually died off, failing to pass their mitochondrial DNA – a genetic material passed down from mother to child.
By applying this same logic, scientists believe there must be a ‘Y-chromosome Adam,’ from which the Y-chromosome in every human originates.
Scientists can use this ‘genetic clock’ to determine when everyone had the same DNA.
Geneticists looked at the mitochondrial DNA of 147 people worldwide in 1987.
The researchers could figure out how many mutations had occurred since their most recent common ancestor.
Dividing that number by the rate of mutations shows that ‘mitochondrial Eve’ may have lived in Africa around 200,000 years ago.
Similarly, a 2013 study with 1,200 men from Sardinia shows that the ‘Y-chromosome Adam’ would have lived 180,000 to 200,000 years ago.
But to clarify, scientists do not actually believe that humans descended from a single human pair.
This Adam and Eve would have been just one of many living human beings on Earth.
Our two most common ancestors likely lived hundreds or thousands of years apart.
Yet still, other scientists believe that there’s a way of making science fit with the biblical account of Adam and Eve.
Washington University biologist Dr. Joshua Swamidass published an article in Perspectives on Science and Christian Faith, in which he penned (per MailOnline): “Many individuals are each individually ancestors of ‘all the living.’
“‘All humans alive descend from each of these universal ancestors. The same can be said for all alive in AD 1, or all alive when recorded history begins.
“Two of them could be a particular couple, named Adam and Eve in scripture, from whom we all descend.”
Although he didn’t note a positive case for the existence of Adam and Eve, he simply pointed out that nothing prohibits the pair’s existence.
