Teenager Dies After TikTok Prank Goes Horribly Wrong
A Virginia teenager has died after a TikTok prank went devastatingly wrong.
Michael Bosworth Jr, 18, was a senior at Massaponax High School. His tragic death was just hours before he was to attend his prom.
Bosworth was days away from his final high school lacrosse game and weeks away from graduating from High School.
The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release stating that the incident occurred at 3 a.m. on Saturday.
Deputies received calls from residents of a disturbance near McKenzie Lane in Washington, D.C., with police believing they were responding to a burglary.

The 18-year-old, accompanied by two juveniles, was participating in a TikTok trend, ‘ding-dong ditch’, a prank they were recording for the social media platform.
According to a search warrant affidavit obtained by NBC News, one of the teenagers told detectives they had been filming the pranks for a video, in which they ring people’s doorbells and then run away.
The teen told authorities that they had been to a couple of homes already before the tragic incident took place, and he also stated that they were not familiar with the residential suburb.
The affidavit says: “The juvenile stated that they had run to hide.”
The other teenager who was involved in the prank gave a similar account of the incident, telling detectives that he had a video on his phone of them doing the prank earlier that day.

Bosworth, along with the two unnamed others, knocked on the door of Tyler Chase Butler, 27.
The homeowner fatally shot the 18-year-old in the torso.
The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that police responded to calls of resistance, believing it to be a break-in, when they found Bosworth, another juvenile who was grazed by a bullet, and a detective tracked down the third teen, who was not injured.
Detective Earle Swift wrote in the affidavit that one of the boys told him that they weren’t there to steal anything and that when the shooting occurred, the teens were running away and looking for a place to hide.

Bosworth was taken to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The other juvenile was treated for ‘minor injuries and released.’
The homeowner, Butler, was arrested on charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the death of Bosworth.
According to NBC Washington, Butler told investigators he believed Bosworth and two other teenagers were trying to break into the home.
Butler is being held in Rappahannock Regional Jail on no bond.
