Erika Kirk has landed a surprising new job, months after taking over Turning Point USA in the wake of her husband Charlie’s assassination.

Erika, 37, was married to far-right commentator Charlie Kirk for four years before his assassination at Utah Valley University last summer.

Since her husband’s murder, Erika has taken on the leadership role within the conservative political organization Charlie founded, Turning Point USA.

A former Miss Arizona, Erika met Kirk in New York City in 2019, with the couple marrying in Scottsdale, Arizona, two years later. Their wedding reception was funded by Turning Point USA, and their marriage also coincided with the ninth anniversary of TPUSA.

Erika had two children with Kirk and was regularly seen by his side at TPUSA events.

Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, while speaking at an outdoor campus debate planned by Turning Point USA. Twenty-two-year-old Tyler James Robinson was arrested as the suspected shooter.

Delivering a speech at TPUSA headquarters shortly after her husband’s death, Erika confirmed she was going to continue Kirk’s work and spearhead the organization, which Kirk founded in 2012.

On September 21, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Erika gave a speech at Kirk’s memorial, publicly forgiving the alleged shooter, Robinson.

Over 90,000 people are reported to have been in attendance at the memorial, including President Donald Trump and his Vice President JD Vance.

In the months following the assassination of her husband, Erika has been a target for criticism.

Far-right conservative political commentator and conspiracy theorist Candace Owens has launched a stinging tirade against Kirk in her new multipart video series, ‘Bride of Charlie’.

Owens served under Charlie Kirk as TPUSA’s communications director until 2019, after she was asked to leave following praiseworthy comments she made about Adolf Hitler.

The controversial podcaster has criticized Erika’s behavior and demeanor in the wake of her husband’s murder, in which she has made multiple high-profile public appearances and appeared in high spirits.

Multiple other far-right commentators have raised the same critiques of Kirk, who was front and center of TPUSA’s AmericaFest in December.

At AmericaFest, Kirk appeared in a glittering pantsuit, posing for photos in a replica of the stand her husband used to debate people in. She also threw hats into the crowd and cheered for merchandise sales amid news that 275,000 people had been in attendance.

Owens, however, has begun to delve deeper into Erika’s past, bringing up how she claimed to have been raised by a single mother in her biography before revealing on an episode of The Charlie Kirk Show that her father was a ‘stay-at-home-dad.’

There are also discrepancies about Erika’s differing birth date across various documents that Owens flags in her series, as well as a deep dive into Erika’s dating life pre-Charlie.

Many online commentators and critics have also raised questions about Erika’s public conduct, which Kirk has dismissed directly, per the Hollywood Reporter: “My husband’s dead. Like, I’m not trying to be morbid, but he’s dead. And it puts life into perspective.”

What is Erika Kirk’s surprising new job?

Kirk’s new job comes after an appointment by Donald Trump. It has not been made official at the time of writing, but it has been confirmed in the media.

The current TPUSA CEO has been appointed to a key advisory board of the US Air Force Academy. The 37-year-old will join a number of Trump loyalists on the 16-strong panel of the academy’s board of visitors, which according to its website ‘inquires into the morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods and other matters’ of the Colorado Springs military training facility.

Charlie Kirk had previously been appointed to the board, serving on it for a year before his death in September, 2025.

There has not been a official announcement made regarding Kirk’s appointment, although multiple political news outlets, including The Hill have reported it this week.

White House spokesperson Olivia Wales said in a statement that Erika was a ‘perfect choice’ to succeed her husband.

“Charlie Kirk served proudly on the board, inspiring not only the next generation of service members, but millions around the world with his bold Christian faith, defense of the truth and deep love of country.

‘Erika Kirk will continue his legacy, and will be a fearless advocate for the most elite airpower force in the history of the world whose warriors keep our nation safe, strong and free.”

The board currently contains five Trump appointees, with one slot currently still vacant. Other Trump appointees include, per The Guardian, Republican Alabama US senator Tommy Tuberville, and Dina Powell, who was deputy national security adviser for strategy during the first Trump administration.
