Wife Of Man Cut In Half By Forklift Issues Devastating Health Update After He’s Hospitalized
The wife of the man who was cut in half by a forklift has issued a devastating update following his recent hospitalization.
Loren Schauers was just 19 years old in September 2019 when a forklift he was operating drove off a bridge in Montana, plunging more than 50 feet.
The catastrophic fall led doctors to perform a hemicorporectomy, an extraordinarily rare surgery that removes the lower half of his body, as well as his pelvis, and part of one of his arms.

In the years since his life-changing accident, Schauers has opened up about the profound struggles he has faced, from isolation to finding purpose.
Loren Schauers’ memory of the accident
Speaking of the day his life changed forever, Schauers recalled: “As the edge of the bridge collapsed and the forklift started to tip up, I unbuckled my seatbelt and went to jump out.
“I now know that was the wrong idea but it was just fight or flight.”
He continued: “The seatbelt ended up wrapping around my leg as I jumped out so I actually swung out instead and broke one of my ribs off the floorboard of the forklift.
“I tried staying on top of the forklift as much as I could as it rolled and then I was thrown from the forklift at the end of the hill once it finally landed.
“I was conscious the whole time. My eyes were wide open and I saw the forklift come down and land on my hips and my right forearm.”

How the accident has changed Schauers’ life
Schauers’ life has changed dramatically after being cut in half by a forklift, upending not only his physical world but nearly every part of his identity.
Since the accident, he has had to navigate immense physical challenges, shifting relationships, and the emotional weight of rebuilding a future he once had clearly mapped out.
In a YouTube video with his wife Sabia, Schauers opened up about how the accident altered his friendships.
When asked whether people still treat him the same, he acknowledged feeling ‘a little disappointed’ by some who have ‘totally reverted and have been reclusive.’
Sabia noted that while a few friends unexpectedly stepped up to offer strong support, others pulled away entirely.
Schauers responded with quiet acceptance: “But it’s whatever to me, you know, I got Sabia, that’s all I need.”
Beyond friendships, Schauers revealed a deeper internal struggle – trying to rediscover his purpose.
Years on, he admitted he still feels stuck.

“I really haven’t found my niche yet of what I want to do and what I can do and what my next step in life’s going to be,” he shared in a recent anniversary video. “I’ve honestly been in this stagnant stasis ever since the accident.”
Before everything changed, his future felt straightforward and solid. He had planned to build a hands-on career in construction, mastering trades and working with his hands long-term.
“My plan was to work construction and get a labor job and get some trades under my belt, be a jack of all trades, and work construction my entire life,” he explained.
Since losing that path, Schauers has experimented with different possibilities – from real estate to gaming to YouTube – yet none have fully clicked.
“So for the past six years, I’ve just dabbled in multiple different ideas, real estate, gaming, uh the YouTube… just really struggling to find my niche.”
Schauers has also been open in the past about his hopes of starting a family with Sabia, whether through adoption or a donor. But more recently, he’s acknowledged that those plans feel increasingly unlikely.

“We would like to have a family of our own but given how much of a problem my care has been, I don’t really see it in the cards for us,” he said.
He explained that the realities of his day-to-day care needs have made the idea difficult to justify.
In his view, adding a child to their current circumstances wouldn’t feel right. “It really wouldn’t be fair of us to bring a child or adopt a child in life and saddle them with a lifestyle like ours.”
Now, Schauers is facing yet another troubling blow, as his wife has shared a concerning health update following his recent hospitalization.
Sabia issues a devastating health update
Just yesterday (February 12), Schauers’ wife posted a picture of him in the hospital, seven years on from the accident.
“Hi guys, we’ve been taking it easy for a couple of days but here is the latest update,” she posted on Facebook.
“We were supposed to go back to the Helena prosthetics place today, but it got postponed because not all parts had come in yet, bummer but that’s how life goes sometimes, they are working hard on it though, so it’ll be soon!”
But following this note, Sabia went on to announce that her husband had actually been hospitalized in recent hours, due to an infection.

“On the downside, Loren’s last round of antibiotics seems to not have knocked out Loren’s latest C-diff infection,” she explained.
“So we found ourselves making an unexpected trip to the hospital where he is currently chilling and being himself.
“We will keep you informed as always and we love and appreciate you all!”
