Nick Kyrgios has become subject to further controversy at Wimbledon by wearing a red hat and red trainers on Centre Court to his last-16 match against Brandon Nakashima.

This broke competition etiquette where all competitors must wear all-white attire when playing at Wimbledon.

The competition guidelines state that all competitors must wear white ‘from the point at which the players enter the court surrounded’.

Despite wearing white trainers during his match, he walked onto Centre Court wearing red Jordans, along with a red Jordan hat that he wore throughout the match.

However, in his post-match press conference, Kyrgios brushed off any criticism by saying: “I do what I want. I’m not above the rules, I just like wearing my Jordans [trainers].

“It’s more attention for me. What’s that saying? Any publicity is good publicity, right?”

The world number 40 ranked player has already been fined twice already this tournament and faces the threat of a third fine. He got fined for spitting in the direction of the fans during his first-round match against Paul Jubb.

He then got handed a second fine for swearing at tournament officials during his third-round clash with Stefanos Tsitsipas, who also received a fine for smashing the ball once at the crowd and then again at the backboard.

Kyrgios’ antics at the tournament have been largely scrutinised by British media. In regards to his attitude towards the umpire in his third-round match, TalkSport host Laura Woods has said: “The parts for me that go too far – I don’t mind players being vocal and in the past I’ve actually enjoyed Kyrgios – but when I watched this I felt uncomfortable.

“For me, it was a spectacular display of complete ignorance and I didn’t enjoy it.”

However, people have come to his defence, with Australian runner Tim Rosen tweeting: “Imagine not finding anything decent to pick on Kyrgios about today, so you decide to attack him about his shoes. And tell him how he’s about to “get in trouble. If it’s just a fine and not DQ to break dress code, I hope if he finals he comes onto the court in a bright red shirt.”

Nick Kyrgios is back in action on Wednesday, where he faces Cristian Garin in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
