Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Release Date Hinted At By Ewan McGregor

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, however, Ewan McGregor has revealed it is coming soon.

The actor hasn’t played the legendary Jedi since Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), but he is reprising the role for a spin-off series set to air on Disney+.

Filming is set to begin in springtime in LA, which McGregor revealed to comedy star Eddie Izzard was something he found ‘more exciting’ than his previous stints in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

What has Ewan McGregor said about Obi-Wan Kenobi series release date?

During a video call for the comedian’s #MakeHumanityGreatAgain marathon fundraiser, McGregor said: “We start making it in the late spring and we’re gonna be shooting it here in LA and not – it’s so funny, every week, there’s a new report.

“My dad was sending me links, saying, ‘I thought you were shooting it in LA’ because there’s another tabloid expose that we’re shooting it in some bizarre town somewhere.

“Then we’re meant to be making it in Boston and then we’re meant to be making it, no, it wasn’t Boston, it was Boston, England. But we’re not. We’re shooting it in LA.”

Despite over 15 years having passed, he expressed his excitement at reprising the iconic role once more.

He said: “It’ll just be great to do it again. It’s so funny, I did my last one in 2003 [2005] and it’s such a long time ago and the idea of doing it again now is just more exciting than it was then, I think.

“I’m thrilled to get the chance to play him again. I’ve always felt there was a story between my ones and Alec Guinness’ ones and that’s what we’re gonna do. It should be really interesting.”

Further on in the interview, the Trainspotting actor said that the spin-off is set to utilise a similar shooting style to other Star Wars live-action spinoff series, such as The Mandalorian.

He explained: “We’re shooting it much in the way The Mandalorian series was shot. We’re using some of that technology. I really liked it and I liked the format of it. I liked the Western nature of it, it’s an old-fashioned TV Western. It’s brilliant.”
