Phillip Schofield was left emotional as he accepted an LGBT award after coming out aged 57.
The daytime TV presenter, who revealed he was gay last year, received special recognition at the British LGBT Awards 2021.
As he couldn’t attend the event, he sent over a pre-recorded video in which he said he was feeling ‘proud’.

Tearing up, he said: “Wow. This is a biggie. What a proud moment for me personally.”
“I’ve never won any award individually,” he continued. “Any award you win as a team that’s there propping you up and definitely that’s the case with this one.
“I had the most extraordinary people that helped me pack the parachute before the jump.
“Friends and family, loved ones and then there were an enormous amount of rainbow arms outstretched to catch me when I reached the bottom of my jump.”
In 2020, Schofield sat on This Morning’s blue sofa and announced to the world that he was gay in a live broadcast.

During the confession, he said: “Everyone does these things at their own speed, in their own time when the time is right.
“There’s no question it has in recent times consumed my head and has become an issue in my head. And so I got to the stage where I thought we sit here every day and I’m over there and some amazingly brave incredible person is sitting here and I’m listening to their story and thinking oh my God you’re so brave, and I’m thinking ‘I have to be that person’.
“All you can be in your life is honest with yourself and I was getting to the point where I knew I wasn’t honest with myself. I didn’t like myself very much. So when is the right time to do it? And you know as a family, you know it is the right time.”
