Piers Morgan has recalled an ‘unnerving encounter’ with Will Smith after the actor slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars when he made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

The TV presenter, who recently blasted Vladimir Putin’s ‘bully-boy tactics,’ has spoken out about the alleged incident in his column for The Sun.

He claimed that it happened back in 2011 when he was interviewing the actor’s wife, and the star ended up coming along.

Find out what Chris Rock has said about the incident below…

Morgan penned: “A few years ago, I interviewed Jada Pinkett Smith for CNN, and Will turned up unannounced to support her.

“My first encounter with him was unnerving.”

The journalist went on to claim that Smith yelled: “I wasn’t sure about you…. Not sure at all!”

He then added: “But now I like you.”

At the time, the King Richard star was apparently standing ‘inches’ from Morgan’s face.

The former Good Morning Britain host said that Smith also told him not to ‘upset’ Pinkett Smith, adding: “You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”

Morgan also discussed the incident at the Oscars, adding that he thought it was ‘the ugliest ever seen at the Academy Awards’.

On March 29, Smith took to Instagram and shared an apology in regards to the incident.

The statement read: “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

“I would like to publicly apologise to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

“I would also like to apologise to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologise to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behaviour has stained what has been otherwise a gorgeous journey for all of us.

“I am a work in progress.

“Sincerely, Will.”
