A plane passenger sparked debate after sharing how the person seated in front of him reclined their seat, causing significant damage to his laptop.

According to the Delta passenger, the incident ‘ruined his livelihood,’ but the flight attendant reportedly insisted the passenger in front had the right ‘to be able to recline.’

This incident highlights the ongoing debate about airplane etiquette, especially regarding the right to recline seats and the impact it can have on other passengers.

Pat Cassidy’s recent experience on a Delta flight added fuel to the discussion, with some suggesting it may be time to reconsider or even ban reclining seats on planes.

Cassidy, a podcast host, shared his frustration on X, formerly Twitter, explaining how the reclining seat in front of him crushed his laptop.

The incident has since sparked divided reactions in the comments section.

One person commented: “This is my biggest travel pet peeve. I think it’s rude to recline your seat,” while another remarked: “I think it’s common sense not to open and lean your screen against the seat exactly for this reason.”

He tweeted: “@Delta small note for the suggestion box, maybe have a little warning sign or someway to prevent my laptop from being destroyed when the person in front of me reclines their seat.”

Cassidy elaborated further in another tweet, expressing dissatisfaction with the flight attendant’s response.

He wrote: “I really appreciate that your flight attendant came over to tell me that the passenger in front of me ‘needs to be able to recline’ and then asked him ‘if he was okay?’ as if your seat hadn’t just ruined my livelihood.”

The post quickly gained attention online, with Cassidy later sharing an update about his interaction with Delta.

According to him, Delta initially responded after prominent figure @BarstoolBigCat mentioned the incident.

However, Cassidy noted he was unable to get in touch with anyone when he called back.

Ultimately, he received a voucher worth around $75 from Delta, which he viewed as inadequate compensation.
