A policeman has been exposed in shocking footage which shows him ‘choking’ a woman who refused to wear a facemask, despite being told that it was for medical reasons.
Shocking footage has been shared online in which a police officer arrests a woman because she isn’t wearing a facemask in public. However, the situation quickly turns dark when he grips his hands around the woman’s throat.
The footage, which was recorded in Melbourne, Australia, shows a woman crying out for help as she’s being choked by a policeman.
In the disturbing video, she can be heard calling out: “He’s choking me.”
Since last month, rules have been put in place which means that whilst out in public, people need to wear a mask or they will face a fine of more than $100.
In the footage which has been circulating online, the 21-year-old woman is clearly not wearing a facemask. Yet when the officer becomes violent, her boyfriend is heard pleading – he tries to explain that she’s exempt from the rule as she has medical reasons.
The police officer is exposed in the footage to be using excessive force, as he grabs her by the arm as the debate heats up.
A struggle then takes place, in which the woman appears to grapple with the policeman. In response, he grabs her by the neck.
Whilst the woman cries out “Get the f*** off me” and “what the f***”, onlookers gathered.
The dark-haired woman is then showing to be thrashing about as the officer refuses to loosen his grip.
The woman yells: “What are you doing? You’re f****** choking me. You’re f****** choking me, dude, what the f***.”
Whilst the officers wait for backup, the woman is shown in further footage to be being sat on.
Meanwhile, her boyfriend is calling out: “She went to the doctor yesterday. Look what you’re causing. You’re f****** hypocrites.
“There’s a man on a girl and you choked her.
“For what? For a mask? For not having a mask? Look how pathetic you are! Are you serious? Just for not having a mask?”
In response to the footage going viral, a spokesperson for Victoria Police said that the woman had been arrested as she had refused to “provide identification for breaching the Chief Health Officer’s directions”.
A spokesperson told the Daily Mail: “Police made the decision to arrest the woman after she failed to provide her name and address.
“She then became physically aggressive and kicked a female officer to the upper body.
“The woman continued to resist arrest and had to be taken to ground before being arrested.”
Later on, the woman was charged with resisting a police officer and assaulting an officer.
