According to Prince Harry’s spokesperson, the couple were involved in a ‘relentless pursuit’ after the ceremony.

A source says: “This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers.

“While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.”

“Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all in involved.”

It has been reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe that the pursuit could have been fatal.

The couple, along with Markle’s mother, were making their way back to their private residence when the incident occurred.

The chase involved six blacked-out vehicles with unidentified people driving recklessly which endangered their convoy and everyone around them.

There were a number of traffic violations reportedly in breach including driving on the pavement and through red lights, reversing down a one-way street, illegally blocking a moving vehicle and driving while photographing on the phone.

In his book ‘Spare’ the Duke shared how he drove through the tunnel she died in for ‘closure’, while he visited the city during the Rugby World Cup in 2007.

It reads: “The World Cup provided me with a driver, and on my first night in the City of Light I asked him if he knew the tunnel where my mother…

“I watched his eyes in the rearview, growing large. The tunnel is called Pont de l’Alma, I told him. Yes, yes. He knew it.”
