The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the decision to step back from the royal family in 2020.

A new Netflix documentary – split into two instalments of three episodes – chronicles Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship and their battles within both their private and public lives.

Harry & Meghan Volume 1 dominated headlines following its release on December 8, but a shocking revelation in Volume 2, released on December 15, has set tongues wagging once again.

Prince Harry claims that his brother, Prince William, 40, ‘screamed and shouted’ at him during a ‘family crisis meeting’ at Sandringham in 2020.

The meeting allegedly saw the family discuss Prince Harry, 38, and 41-year-old Markle’s plans to step back from royal duties – and was held just hours before the Palace issued a statement, which he says went out without his approval.

He said: “It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me and my father [King Charles] say things that simply weren’t true, and my grandmother [the Queen] quietly sit there and take it all in.

“But you have to understand that from the family’s perspective, especially from hers, there are ways of doing things and her ultimate mission, slash responsibility, is the institution.”

The meeting was called in response to a newspaper story that claimed Prince Harry and Markle were planning to leave the UK and their royal duties behind after being ‘bullied’ by Prince William.

Prince Harry goes on to say that an angry denial from Palace officials – which labelled the story ‘false, offensive and potentially harmful’ – was issued just hours later.

He explains: “Once I got in the car after the meeting, I was told about a joint statement that had been put out in my name and my brother’s name, squashing the story about him bullying us out of the family.

“I couldn’t believe it. No one had asked me permission to put my name on a statement like that.

“I rang Meghan and I told her and she burst into floods of tears because within four hours they were happy to lie to protect my brother and yet for three years, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.”

Markle then says: “Suddenly, what clicked in my head was it was never going to stop.”

Prince Harry says that he and his brother had a ‘pact’ never to allow their respective offices to brief against each other, and his realisation that this had been broken was ‘heartbreaking’.

He added: “The saddest part of it was the wedge created between me and my brother… now on the institution’s side, and part of me gets that.

“That’s his inheritance, so to some extent, it’s already ingrained in him that part of his responsibility is the survivability and the continuation of this institution.”
