The actor featured in the celebration broadcast when interviewed by Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham about his upcoming film, Top Gun: Maverick.
During the chat, Schofield told the American: “We both went to see Top Gun: Maverick last week and as big fans of the original if I’m honest Tom we were terrified.”

In response, Cruise quipped: “So was I.”
Continuing, Schofield said: “‘What are we going to say if we don’t like it? [But] it is incredible. It’s everything you want it to be and more.”
After watching the interview, viewers took to Twitter and shared their thoughts.
One tweeted: “Given up on the dire @ITV coverage of #PlatinumJubilee – after an hour seen more of Tom Cruise plugging his film than show and far too much of Phil and Julie.
“Utter waste of programming time!”
In agreement, a second fumed: “What the hell was Tom Cruise doing at The Queen’s bash last night? Couldn’t we find a proper English actor or actress to talk? What does an American know about us? Nothing.”
“Had this absolutely mad dream last night that Tom Cruise, Alan Titchmarsh and a seemingly random assortment of British celebrities starred in a four-hour-long tribute to The Queen’s horses, and it was broadcast live on prime time TV,” a third joked.
A fourth penned: “Can @itv just show the full ceremony without ads and Tom Cruise promoting his film?
“So far, the production is just a mess and hugely disrespectful for Her Majesty when the live show is probably very good.”
