Richard Madeley is once again under fire from Good Morning Britain viewers after ‘patronising’ England Lionesses hero Alessia Russo.
Madeley had welcomed Russo onto the GMB set after she helped England beat Germany and lift the Euro 2022 trophy for the first time – but it wasn’t long before viewers were upset with the presenter.
He asked Russo: “How are you feeling? It’s three days on now. If I was your dad and asked you that and said, ‘How are you feeling love?’. What would you say?”

Russo told Madeley that she was ‘exhausted’ and ‘overwhelmed’ before adding: “It’s something we have been waiting for in women’s football for a long time.”
According to Metro, the backlash over Madeley calling Russo ‘love’ came thick and fast.
One person tweeted: “Richard Madeley talking to Women’s footballers is one of the most cringe things on TV.
“I feel for these ladies having to discuss a huge moment in their lives, with this clueless, patronising numpty.”
Another said: “Richard Madeley just said to Alessia Russo, “how you feeling love”? Good grief! How inappropriate. #GMB @GMB.”
A third added: “‘If I was your Dad, and asked you that, what would you say?’ What is Richard on about?? Richard “who’s your daddy” Madeley #GMB @AccidentalP (obviously).”
Richard Madeley’s Comment During Chloe Kelly Interview Sparks Backlash
“What the f*** is wrong with @richardm56? He’s saying to Russo, ‘If I were you dad’. Then saying when she was a ‘kiddywinky,’ Get him off! #cringe #gmb,” another chimed in.
Several viewers were also irked by Madeley cutting in and interrupting Russo while she was answering his questions.
This is the second time in two days Madeley has been criticised by GMB viewers, yesterday coming under fire for calling England goalscorer Chloe Kelly, ‘Coco,’ as that’s what he calls his daughter who goes by the same name.
One annoyed viewer wrote: “Richard Madeley wrapping up his interview with Chloe Kelly by calling her ‘Coco,’ ‘because that’s what I call MY daughter Chloe,’ is exactly the sort of high level awkward cringe I can’t cope with today.”
