Ricky Gervais, who recently made his feelings clear about Johnny Depp’s defamation trial, has claimed he is ‘going to die soon’.

The comedian appeared on The One Show to discuss his new comedy special with Netflix when he made the shocking comment.

Teasing Gervais about some of his content, host Alex Jones said: “Throughout this you mention, your wealth quite a lot and that can be really uncomfortable sometimes but the audience absolutely lap it up.

“So how do you manage to pitch that so well?”

The 60-year-old replied: “Because they know what I’m doing. They know I’m taking the mickey out of it and I’m going there, it’s an elephant in the room.”

Gervais went on to add: “I go out with bad jeans, drinking out of a can of beer. I think because we are jesters so we have to be down with the audience, laughing at the king and I do that in two ways, one – I let them peep behind the curtain and I tell them all the terrible things that happen to me, the terrible tweets, the terrible press.

“Because they know what I’m doing. They know I’m taking the mickey out of it and I’m going there, it’s an elephant in the room.

“I also do it by telling them they’re better off than me. I’m fat and old and I am going to die soon.”

Gasping in shock, Jones responded to the comedian by saying: “You’re not.”

“I am,” he replied.

To which the presenter insisted: “You’re not, you’re not.”

Gervais then burst into laughter, before adding: “I’ve brought it down, haven’t I?”
