Ricky Gervais appears to have made his feelings clear about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars

The comedian, who has hosted the Golden Globes five times, liked a string of tweets relating to the incident and retweeted a joke from The Office, that referenced alopecia.

In the footage, his character can be seen saying: “Particularly for his wife. And she’s got alopecia. So… not a happy home life.”

The tweets he liked appeared to side heavily in favour of Rock.

Several referenced his own quote: “Everyone agrees with free speech until they hear something they don’t like.”

Another added: “So Will Smith was totally cool with @rickygervais calling all of Hollywood p****s but felt assault was the proper response to a bald joke.”

“Maybe Chris Rock should be able to tell jokes at the Oscars without being accosted onstage. Just saying,” a third stated. “Will Smith was laughing up until Jada started eye-rolling. I can’t believe he overshadowed his historical win with violence just because his wife got offended over a joke.”

Pitching in, a fourth wrote: “I wonder how many comedians (who have struggled to make a living in #lockdown) are now feeling fair game at a live show. Do me a favour, if you’re easily offended, just stay out of comedy clubs.”

Will Smith May Be ‘Stripped Of Oscar’ After Slapping Chris Rock

Later on, Gervais shared how he would have opened the Oscars show if had he been hosting, saying: “I’d start with ‘Hello. I hope this show helps cheer up the ordinary people watching at home’.

“‘If you’re unemployed for example, take some comfort in the fact that even if you had a job, your salary probably wouldn’t be as much as the goody bag all the actors have just been given’.

“‘I’m proud to announce that this is the most diverse and progressive Oscars ever. Looking out I see people from all walks of life. Every demographic under the sun’.

“‘Except poor people, obviously. F*** them’.”
