An anti-vegan ‘sausage expert’ was tricked into eating a ‘lovely’ plant-based sausage on live TV

The hilarious moment unfolded on an episode of the U.K. daytime show Jeremy Vine, which involves the host discussing the latest news and opinions with panelists.

On one episode, Jeremy Vine invites English journalist, radio presenter, and self-proclaimed ‘sausage expert’ Mike Parry.

In a segment titled ‘Stop calling vegan sausages ‘sausages,” Vine asks Parry to identify which of the two sausage sandwiches is vegan.

Walking over to Parry with two plates, the host says: “Here are two sandwiches and I’m going to give them to Mike.

“You’ve got to tell me right, of these, which is the real meat sandwich.”

Vine asks Parry whether he’d like red or brown sauce on his sandwich and the journalist declines both, insisting it could ‘disguise’ which sandwich is which.

The panelist proceeds to take a bite out of each sandwich followed by a glass of water.

After a moment of deliberating, Parry settles on his answer.

The panelist declares: “It is absolutely obvious to me that this first one is the false sausage, okay. That’s not a real sausage. That’s cardboard. This second one is clearly the real sausage. I could taste the meat in it.”

He adds: “It was luscious and lovely. Tasted a bit like the one I had this morning.

“This is the winner.”

The camera shows Vine appearing amused by Parry’s answer as the host comments: “Very interesting.”

Vine then walks over to the other side of the studio and brings out two more plates topped with sandwiches, revealing: “The answer is, is that the meat sausage is actually down here Mike. You’ve just eaten two vegan sandwiches.

“You, I think are a vegan in disguise!”

Appearing dumbfounded, Parry replies: “Not at all. What an underhanded, downright rotten trick to put on a man whose reputation now as the ‘great sausage butty king’ is ruined.”

In response, Vine asks: “How do you feel that mistake was made? You’ve tasted sausage, right?”

Parry replies: “All I can say is, that that’s cardboard and that’s sort of almost cardboard. Call it tissue paper.

“I shall take a bite out of the real sausage.”

Clips of the funny moment are circulating on Reddit, where people mock Parry’s self-proclaimed title of ‘sausage expert.’

One viewer comments: “Lol, why are people so adamant about ‘hating’ vegan food? People really revolve their whole personality around it. It’s so goofy.”

A second adds: “Beautiful bamboozled.”

“I think it’s often they tried a terrible veggie burger in 1996 or once ate plain unseasoned tofu and convinced themselves that all vegan foods are bad,” suggests another.

Somebody else writes: “Now that’s what I call embarrassing.”
