Fans are worried that the new Scary Movie won’t be funny because ‘people can’t take a joke these days.’

The Scary Movie series released five films from 2000 to 2013 – where it mocked and poked fun at the popular horror tropes of the time.

The original Scary Movie series was created by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans.

Keenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed the first two films, while Marlon and Shawn were both writers and stars in those installments.

Despite not being the most critically acclaimed franchise, they were commercially successful with the series grossing $830 million worldwide at the box office, as per The Numbers.

It has recently been announced that a new installment will soon be coming out – however, fans are concerned about it.

The news was officially confirmed at CinemaCon, with the movie set to enter production this year – aiming for a 2025 release date, as per Deadline.

The reboot is finally in the works, marking the first collaboration among the Wayans brothers in 18 years.

This new film will feature an original screenplay, continuing the legacy of the earlier installments, which humorously parodied slasher films such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Production for the new Scary Movie is set to begin next year, with a theatrical release planned. The Wayans brothers, along with Rick Alvarez, will be responsible for writing and producing the film.

Miramax’s Jonathan Glickman stated, per Deadline: “We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen, and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”

The Wayans brothers expressed their enthusiasm, saying: “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago.

“We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

With the Scary Movie franchise known for poking fun at current horror trends, the new movie will not be hurting for content as the last 10 years have seen some of the most critically acclaimed films in the genre.

Mike Flanagan has created some of the biggest horror series, including Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher, while films like A Quiet Place and IT have dominated the box office.

But despite the excitement around the upcoming movie, fans are concerned about it – with worries that modern audiences will have a problem with its humor.

One person on social media says: “Won’t be the same because the easily offended no doubt will be offended so the close to the edge jokes etc won’t be done… Hope it’s good though.”

“It won’t be the same that was a different generation,” adds another user.

A third writes: “There’s no way they can make them now with the humor they used to have in it.”

Someone else pens: “It will be s**t. People complain too much so nothing is made the same anymore without offending someone.”
