Shamima Begum has insisted she ‘didn’t hate Britain’ when she fled to Syria in 2015.

In an interview with Sky News, the former ISIS bride explained why she made the decision to leave the UK when she was a teenager.

She said: “I didn’t hate Britain, I hated my life really. I felt very constricted, and I felt I couldn’t live the life that I wanted in the UK as a British woman.”

Reportedly, she also said that it wasn’t a ‘quick’ decision and she thought about it ‘for a while’.

The 22-year-old, who is currently based at the Al-Roj camp in Syria, then admitted that her location has become ‘more scary,’ as violence has increased.

Begum explained: “For a long time it wasn’t violent but for some reason, it’s become more scary to live here.

“Maybe the women have got tired of waiting for something.”

According to The Sun, insiders have previously alleged that ISIS brides have attempted to ‘firebomb’ Begum’s tent.

A source of the publication has claimed that she may have ‘angered’ the wives after dressing in Western clothing.

They reportedly said: “Wearing trainers and makeup has angered the wives.”

Recently, Begum has also said she ‘hates’ herself for having joined ISIS.

In an interview on Good Morning Britain, she said: “No one can hate me more than I hate myself for what I’ve done and all I can say is I’m sorry and just give me a second chance.

“The only crime I think I committed was being dumb enough to come to ISIS.”

Addressing the Prime Minister, she continued: “You are clearly struggling with extremism and terrorism in your country.

“I could very much help you with that because you clearly don’t know what you’re doing.

“I want them [the British public] to see me as an asset rather than a threat to them.”
