Stay Close fans have branded DS Michael Broome, played by James Nesbitt, as the ‘worst detective ever’.
The Netflix series, based on Harlan Coben’s novel, follows the detective after he agrees to protect Megan, a mum-of-three, from a stalker.
At the same time, he is also trying to solve two missing person’s cases.
Taking to Reddit, one viewer blasted Broome’s skills, writing: “DS Broome is the worst f***ing detective I have ever seen.
“Multiple murders going on and he promises to protect someone. And then he just never picks up his f***ing phone. Almost every death could be avoided if he just answered his phone.
“And then he has the nerve to just constantly be smug about it and accuse Megan of everything. Not even one ‘My bad I should’ve picked up but I was getting some a**’.”
Other viewers responded to the post, commenting on his ‘failure’ to investigate one of the deaths.
They said: “After he figures out Kayleigh is one of the last people to see Carlton, he neglects to question her friend who was with her the whole time *facepalm*.”
Taking to Twitter, other users called out the detective for his overall work ethic, arguing that he was ‘always on the phone’.
One Twitter user wrote: “Let’s talk about how for a whole detective DS Michael Broome NEVER answers his f**king phone.”
“DS Michael Broome is horrible at his job,” added another.
The series arrived on Netflix on New Years Day.
Its official synopsis reads: “When Carlton Flynn vanishes 17 years to the night after Stewart Green did, it sets off a chain reaction in the lives of people connected to both men.”
