A resurfaced video showing an interview with a man who witnessed the tragic death of Steve Irwin has circulated online.

The Australian animal conservationist was loved across the globe and has remained a fondly-remembered treasure since his passing in September 2006.

In a YouTube video, Dr Jamie Seymour recalls seeing Irwin’s final moments and the events that had taken place before and after.

He said he was initially approached about working on a film ‘looking at ocean’s deadliest’. But he went on to say that when he found out the film was for Steve Irwin, he lost interest.

He said he had been approached about working on a film about the dangers of the ocean’s deadliest animals, but added that when he found out the film was for Irwin, he lost interest.

Explaining how he felt at the time, he said: “Steve’s an idiot, he’s a dead set idiot. You know, there’s a drinking game that you watch when you watch his films, and every time he does something stupid, you’ve got to skull a beer.

“You can’t get through a 50-minute thing before you’re absolutely plastered.”

After rejecting the film, Irwin decided to visit Seymour himself and attempted to persuade him to take on the picture, explaining how he wanted it to be.

Seymour replied: “You do realise that people think you’re an absolute moron?”

He added people only watched Irwin ‘to see what you’re gonna do wrong’.

Irwin then jumped in: “Gotcha! The moment I’ve got you whipped in to see whether I’m gonna do anything wrong, I can tell you anything. And you’re gonna remember it.”

Years later, Irwin remains one of the most loved conservationists of the modern era and his presence is missed, particularly at his Australia Zoo.

Seymour went on to say he gained ‘massive respect’ for Irwin as he realised he was prepared to ‘make a fool of himself to help conservation’.
