Student Fails Exam After Meatball Falls Onto Keyboard And Logs Her Out

A college student failed her economics test that she had to complete at home as a meatball from her meatball sub fell onto her keyboard and logged her out of the exam prematurely.

Sam Lee was horrified when a meatball filling from her meatball sub fell out of the bread and landed on her keyboard, logging her out of her economics test prematurely – as it resulted in her failing the test.

Knowing that she had barely had a chance to answer any questions, the 20-year-old’s suspicion that she had done badly was confirmed when her results came back and it was a failing grade of 39 per cent.

Deciding that she would have to admit what had happened for her to have received such a poor grade, Sam knew she would have to confess to her professor what had actually happened.

A junior at the University of Georgia, she wrote an email to her professor explaining what had happened, she said: “I had some technical difficulties and outside distractions during the test today.

“Something hit my computer and caused it to submit the test when I had less than half of the questions answered. By something, I mean a meatball that had tragically fallen onto my keyboard as I was taking the exam. This said meatball caused some malfunctions with my laptop and caused the test to submit itself.”

She then added: “I completely understand that a falling meatball is no excuse for the failing grade on this exam, but is there any possibility of retaking this test?”

Thankfully, her professor was very understanding of how she had failed her exam – perhaps he had had a similar situation happen to himself.

He responded: “Samantha, well, this is certainly a new and unusual excuse for a low score! But for that reason, it seems unlikely you’ve made this up.

“I’ve extended your deadline for the module 6 test until midnight tonight.”

With a smiling emoji, he added: “I would recommend you take the test either before or after dinner.”

Grateful that it had all been resolved, Sam decided to share her story onto Twitter as she could finally see the funny side, knowing she could retake her test.

Alongside the explanation of how a meatball from her sandwich dropped onto her keyboard and logged her out, she also shared screenshots of the exchange between herself and the professor.

She captioned the post: “Remember in high school teachers would be like your college professors will not tolerate this kind of behavior‘.”

As many found the story absolutely hilarious, it wasn’t long before it accumulated 420,000 likes and nearly 57,000 retweets.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, she said: “I was overjoyed with his response.”

The student then confirmed that fortunately, her resit of the test had proved to be worthwhile as her grade was “slightly better”.
