A prominent country singer was airlifted to a Texas hospital after accidentally shooting himself on his ranch.
The incident occurred on Friday in a rural part of the state, confirmed his agent, Trey Newman.
Emergency responders arrived promptly, stabilizing the singer before transporting him to a hospital in Tyler, Texas, where he is now recovering.
The artist’s wife has assured fans that his condition is not life-threatening.
She explained that the bullet missed vital organs and lodged in the fatty tissue of his stomach.
She shared an update on social media, writing: “I physically put my eyes on him and heard his sweet voice. He’s in good spirits considering the last several hours. Prayers answered as no internal damage was done by the bullet. Thank you all for the prayers.”
Details about the incident reveal it was an unfortunate accident involving a .22-caliber firearm.
Sundance Head, known for winning The Voice, was reportedly alone when the mishap occurred per TMZ.
According to his wife, he had stepped out of his vehicle to retrieve the weapon, and while doing so, the gun slipped from its holster, struck the vehicle’s exterior, and discharged.
Describing the event, she said: “It was not his hunting rifle, and no, nobody shot him. The .22 came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right, and it went off. Sundance said it happened so fast he could see the bullet dislodging.”
Initially, the singer attempted to call for help but realized he had left his phone behind.
In a moment of quick thinking, he ran down the driveway to the main road, flagging down a car for assistance.
After ten vehicles passed, someone finally stopped and called 911.
“He’s so lucky and grateful to be alive,” his wife added.
Doctors have decided against removing the bullet from Head’s abdominal wall.
His wife explained that while the situation is serious, his larger frame may have prevented more severe injury.
“The doctor explained why they wouldn’t remove it, but my head is in a fog right now,” she wrote. “Him being on the bigger side was a good thing. The bullet is in his fatty tissue.”
The country star is well-known for hits like ‘Darlin’ Don’t Go,’ ‘Close Enough to Walk,’ and ‘Me and Jesus.’
Days before the accident, he had shared plans to potentially go hunting, posting on Instagram to his nearly 30,000 followers: “If nothing comes up, I’ll just go hunting – haha – that is the plan.”
He also shared a morning photo captioned: “Woke up this morning to the sound of silence.”
The incident is being treated as accidental, and his family has requested prayers from fans during Head’s recovery.
“We appreciate all the prayers and will update everyone soon once we have more info,” his wife stated.
The singer is scheduled to begin a 27-date tour in December, but it is unclear whether his injuries will affect those plans.
