Susanna Reid made a dig at Prince Charles and Camilla for their trip to Greece amid the travel ban during today’s Good Morning Britain

The 50-year-old said it was an ‘interesting time’ for the royal couple to go on the trip as the country has been told that from Monday they will be fined £5,000 if they attempt to leave the UK.

She said: “They are doing their international duty, of course, masked and distanced, but it’s an interesting time to do it, isn’t it?

“When the country has been told that from Monday there will be a £5,000 fine if you go on holiday.”

She went on to ask: “Are we being churlish by saying that there’s one rule for royals, or if you have essential work reasons, and for everybody else holidays are unlikely?”

Many viewers took to Twitter to agree with the presenter.

One said: “It’s hypocrisy and double standards. We’ve all been told it wouldn’t be wise to travel to other countries or we could face a fine.

“I couldn’t care less about Prince Charles but aren’t they supposed set an example? They’ve been saying we’re all in it together then they go off abroad.”

A second asked: “Why are Prince Charles and Camilla in Athens? Not a great message to the rest of us who are threatened with a £5k fine if we go abroad.”

However, others argued that Reid shouldn’t criticise the senior royals for fulfilling their duties.

“They have both been vaccinated and Prince Charles has had coronavirus so they’re both safe. It’s part of their job,” one person wrote.

Another pitched in, adding: “I am far from impressed with Susanna Reid if she cannot see the difference between the Greece trip and everyone going on vacations now.”
