First Trailer For Space Force Starring Steve Carrell Is Here

Steve Carrell is set to return to our screens in the brand new Netflix original Space Force.

It’s safe to say we could all do with a laugh at the moment, so today’s announcement that Steve Carell has a brand new Netflix comedy series coming soon has to be the news that we’ve all been waiting to hear and should hopefully cheer us all up.

Once again, Carrell has teamed up with the co-creator of the US version of The Office, Greg Daniels for their latest show, Space Force and judging by the first trailer, it looks absolutely brilliant.

Space Force follows decorated pilot and four-star general Mark R. Naird (Carrell) as he finds himself in charge to lead a newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force.

After uprooting with his family and moving to a remote base in Colorado, he and his team of scientists and “spacemen” are tasked by the White House to get American astronauts to quickly land on the moon again, achieving total space dominance.

From the minds of the Carrell and Daniels, Space Force will be the third workplace sitcom that Daniels has created, following on from the hugely successful The Office and Parks and Recreation. As well as Carrell, Space Force also features an incredible comedy line-up with John Malkovich, Lisa Kudrow, Diana Silvers and Ben Schwartz all joining the cast.

Speaking to Netflix ahead of the release of the brand new series, Carrell discussed how the show came into existence, explaining: “Space Force came around in a rather atypical way. Netflix had this premise that they thought might make a funny show — the idea made everybody laugh in a meeting, an idea of a show about the origins of a fictitious Space Force. I heard about the idea through my agent, and Netflix pitched the show to me, and then I pitched the show to Greg, and we all had the same reaction to it.

“Once we had just the concept of Space Force itself, Greg and I sat down and we asked, ‘Well, what’s the show going to be? What will it be about?’ And we landed on the idea that it should be about the inception of Space Force. It should be about the person who is entrusted with the development, the creation of a new branch of the Armed Forces. And my character, General Mark R. Naird, is the person who’s drafted into creating this branch.”

The news that Carrell and Daniels are working on a new show together will no doubt excite many comedy fans given their hugely successful collaboration together on The Office, which propelled Carrell into one of the most popular comedy stars in the world after his award-winning performance as Michael Scott.

Space Force will be available to watch on Netflix on May 29, 2020.
