IGV Interview: The Tragic True Story That Inspired Tabrez Noorani’s Love Sonia

It’s Gone Viral sat down with the cast of Tabrez Noorani’s latest film, Love Sonia to discuss the tragic true story that inspired the gripping film.

Ahead of the release of Love Sonia, It’s Gone Viral was lucky enough to sit down with Richa Chadha, Freida Pinto, Mrunal Thakur, and director Tabrez Noorani to discuss his latest movie, Love Sonia.

Love Sonia is an incredibly powerful film that is centred around the global sex trafficking industry. It tells the story of two sisters, Sonia (Mrunal Thakur) and Preeti (Riya Sisodiya) who work on their father’s farm, but with the farm failing and after falling into severe debt, Preeti is sold by her father. Sonia follows her sister and is determined to save her, but after making her way to Mumbai, Sonia soon realises that both herself and her sister have been sold into brothels.

Sonia’s life is turned upside down as her sheer determination to save her sister sees her embark on her own journey as she ends up being caught up in a global sex trafficking operation.

One of the things that amazed many about the making of the film was that Tabrez originally wanted to make the film in 2003, and Freida Pinto was also on board from 2007, so with 15 years of research behind the film, was there a particular story that made them want to make this film?

It’s certainly a tough but important watch and it was fascinating to speak to the cast and Tabrez himself, to see how they managed to tell such an important story and how they managed to bring the film to life. Love Sonia will be released in the UK today and it is advisable to anyone who has a love for cinema to go and see this incredible film.

Love Sonia will be released on Friday 25 January. Watch the trailer here.
