A ‘bone-chilling’ series based on a true story is now available to watch for free.
From the network AMC, known for hit TV shows such as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, comes a chilling supernatural horror drama that makes an addictive watch.
The anthology series, which mixes the terrifying with the historical, has captured the attention of fans and critics alike.
One fan praises the series online: “It is the best single season of television ever created. It’s criminal how underseen and underappreciated this is, not to mention being a frighteningly possible interpretation of real, still unexplained history.”
Another agrees: “The period aspects, along with beautiful cinematography and excellent acting, makes this one of my favorite shows in recent years.”
“Unlike anything I’ve seen before, very captivating and dark,” comments a third viewer.
The first season, which also has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 94%, is being praised by critics too.
Anita Singh wrote for The Daily Telegraph: “The creeping sense of unease is excellently done. I mean it as a compliment when I say that I’m not sure I can stick it out for all 10 episodes, knowing what’s to come.”
The Independent‘s Ed Cumming added: “An ageless story of mystery and fear, and easily the most compelling new drama to reach British screens this year.”
“A top-notch drama that also works as one of the scariest series in recent television history,” Alex Maidy penned for JoBlo’s Movie Network.
The series is named after the 2007 Dan Simmons novel, which also served as the premise for the first season.
It follows a fictionalized version of events based on a real-life Arctic expedition from the 1800s.
It stars Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, Paul Ready, Adam Nagaitis, Ian Hart, Nive Nielsen, and Ciarán Hinds.
The season follows the ships HMS Terror and HMS Erebus, which met with tragedy after becoming lost and all 129 men aboard perishing.
The shipwrecks were discovered in 2014 and 2016 and since then, novels, TV shows, and archeological investigations have attempted to shed light on the crew’s final moments.
But The Terror truly stands out against most retellings of the story, and now, those intrigued can watch it for free.
U.S. viewers can stream the horror series through Plex and AMC Plus, while U.K. viewers can watch via ITVX.
